I love this taqueria and highly recommend it as the #1 chain of taquerias to get tacos in the RGV!
Whenever we visit the Rio Grande Valley, one of our first stops is a Taqueria El Zarape. They have five flavors of taco: chicken, fajita, bistek, trompo, and molleja. They are available on your choice of flour or corn tortillas. They come with grilled onions, chopped cilantro and onions, and some fresh limes. If you dine in, a server comes around with some delicious - and free! - charro beans.
My personal favorite is the trompo on corn, all the way, with a squeeze of the fresh lime and some of the green salsa. My husband prefers the chicken, also on corn with everything, and he prefers the red salsa.
They also offer baked potatoes (plain or with meat), tortas, a botana platter, and a taco pirata. All of which are good, but nothing beats the tacos!
There are several locations throughout the valley. Find one and enjoy!
