“Best Value Going -- But”
Reviewed June 8, 2013

This property is more like a condominium complex as apposed to a regular hotel. I decided to stay here for a week not only for the location that I needed, but also because of the incredible value (less than $80/nt for the four of us), all the bells and whistles that came with the room, and the Trip Advisor reviews. I had to check it out. Now that I've stayed there, let us look at the ups and downs:
Ups: I had the 2-story, 2-bedroom/2-bath unit that came with a full kitchen and coffee pot, a small living room, big comfy beds - and very quiet. Room was clean with the exception of some mold in the bathrooms. I also liked the daily newspaper and the free internet.
Daily hot breakfast was included which was more than adequate. AND during the week, dinner (very simple), wine(boxed) and beer was thrown in too. Not a bad deal, but I don't like eating with plastic utencils.
While this property is located in an industrial section of Dallas, it is very close to the freeways. DFW is abour 20 minutes away and Love Field about 5 minutes.
Downs: This is not a property where you will find the rich and famous. It is more oriented to those who are on the cheap.
The grounds are a disaster! They are totally unkempt, littered with trash, dirt and dried mud, and at least a years supply of cigarette butts everywhere.
I don't know what bright engineer came up with the hot water system here, but the complex is fed by one 500 gallon water tank that feeds 42 units. Don't count on a hot shower if you're taking one when everyone else is.
Housekeeping may not show up until late late afternoon. And if you call for something you need in the room, you might as well go and get it yourself.

So, if you can get used to the downs, you can't beat the value.

Staff was not friendly during check-in. Once getting my room, i was very hesitant about staying because the grounds were not well maintained. I do not know because of the recent storms in the Dallas area but people seemed to have been living in the hotels and were hanging out in the common areas. However, once we entered the hotel room, it was very clean and appeared to be freshly remodeled. Thus, we decided to stay since it was only for one night and we would be moving on to another city and hotel. I would recommend only for adults/couples needing a quick spot near the airport at a reasonable price. There is only fast food restaurants in the area as it is mainly comprised of office buildings and warehouses. However, with a short drive a lot more options are available.

Room Tip: Try a room near the front of the property

There are not any restaurants that are close to the hotel. if you don't want to drive, you must order in for dinner. The breakfast buffet was mediocre. The exercise room had one tread mill and one precore and a couple of weights. All in all, just an average place with a higher than average price.

I was disappointed from the start! The staff was less than friendly. We requested a non-smoking room and the room smelt like a bar! The place looked like old apartments that were semi-remolded into suites. Frankly I am surprised that the name Hawthorn and Windham are on this property. Every room in the suite had at least two items broken in it. Carpet was ripped, light switches cracked, ceiling plaster cracked and falling, duct tape on the door leading to the balcony, mold everywhere, bedskirt in shreds, window blind cords broken, grease on stove and smelly refrigerator the list goes on. The upstairs room bed had two dead spiders in it! The mattress was the worst ever! Shady characters hanging out at night, no gate in and out. Not the best neighborhood. Breakfast was not much to speak of. No one around to help the guests. Cold beverages were in the refrigerator in the kitchen, strange? When I went to the front dress to ask about getting some ice I was told ice was in my room, that there was no ice available for breakfast - really? (refrigerator with ice maker in room - who knows how old that ice might have been). I told her I had already checked out and didn't have a key anymore! She said "I'm sorry, but that is the only place to get ice". She didn't even offer to send someone for ice, I just don't buy that in my room was the only place to get ice. Enough said - It was BAD!

Room Tip: Don't trust pictures online! Read reviews!
