Description: Dunston's Prime Steakhouse is Dallas's oldest steakhouse. Established in 1955, by Gene Dunston, this steakhouse has become a Dallas institution. Gene and his family still operate the restaurant today. Dunston's Prime is famous for mesquite grilled steaks, chops, chicken and seafood, all cooked on open pits in the cozy dining room. The warm and inviting interior showcases dark wood and stone, including a double-sided fireplace that greets guests upon entry. Both businessmen and families enjoy the comfortable atmosphere and home-cooked favorites at Dunston's Prime Steakhouse. A second location on Lovers Lane provides guests with similar menu items and an old school neighborhood atmosphere.

“Good But Had Hoped For Better”
Reviewed July 4, 2014

I took my wife to Dunston's for a nice steak dinner. We went on a Friday night. There was no wait for a table...the place is really big and has lots of room.

I was hoping for a table in the main area near the fireplaces but we were seated in the side room. The room was ok but kind of like a side room/catering hall. Our waitress was ok enough but didn't act like she really cared about the service or us. Kind of take it or leave it.

The food came out in short time. Our salads were good but not alot to them. The rib eyes came and they seemed small for the price. The steaks were quite tasty and the baked potato and all the fixin's was a real treat.

All and all a good meal but the restaurant and website market the place more along the lines of Ruth's Chris. They have a way to go to catch them in the service and quality area.

“Perfection at extremely reasonable price.”
Reviewed June 17, 2014

In recent weeks steak houses have either lowered their quality, size or have greatly increased prices due to the price of beef. Having visited Dunston's many times in the past, I just had to have a great steak, no matter the price. Surprise! Surprise! I could not find one thing on the menu that I thought had been increased in price. In fact their ribeye is about half the price at upper tier places in Dallas. Combined with the best salad possible, the absolute perfectly baked potato, and home made bread , (all included in the price) makes this a five star restaurant no matter of the location and age of the facility. Across the street from Brook Hollow Country Club is not what I call a bad location.

The real treat is to be greeted by the owner since founded in early 1950's. It is interesting to watch him going around the restaurant making sure all staff are on their toes. At the same time, they all love him.

Don't miss the three huge wood fired grills with the clever design of being able to raise or lower the grill height using a huge wheel. The firewood consists of logs that are easily 12-15" in diameter.

Enjoy this place while you can. It will never be run in the future as well as under current ownership.

We ate here for the first time. I must say it was amazing. The large wood fire pits were amazing. They cooked our steaks on the pits as we watched. They were the best steaks we have ever eaten. The service was very good. We can't wait to go back to Dallas to try it again. The prices were great for the Dallas area!

“Nothing to rave about, just a place to get a steak”
Reviewed March 15, 2014

Friends took us here when we were in Dallas for a convention. Walked into see a nice fireplace and a large restaurant filled with years of old furniture in a very dated building (dirty walls, broken outlets, etc.) Service was average and the food was nothing impressive. Steaks were small and thin but not bad. The baked potato came with a caddy of onions, sour cream, grated cheese and IMITATION BACON BITS! really? come on.. Anyway, this wound up being nothing more than an average meal at best. Not worth going out of your way for.

“Food and atmosphere that Dallas deserves”
Reviewed October 12, 2013

I hate to give any place a 5 but this place definitely deserves it. Cute atmosphere, great food and the price was worth the taste and portion. Staff was very welcoming and great at their jobs. Will definitely come back!
