First phone call: Do you have any specials today, or do you have all entrees? Response: All entrees. Second phone call: Do you have pork tenderloin? Response: No pork tenderloin
Upon arrival - anticipating the purchase of 1 meat loaf entree and 4 beef tenderloin entrees - we arrive to find the "to-go" case ALMOST EMPTY. All this in the time span of 20 minutes - 11:20am to 11:40am! We found some tenderloin - though not enough for 4 servings!
Cannot believe it never occurred to the To-Go counter person to say - We don't have much beef tenderloin today? Or, we don't have meat loaf today?
Forget this place with it's incompetent help and awful parking! Too many other spots close by that provide MUCH better service and equally good food!

What you miss most in Dallas with the sprawling chain and concept restaurants is the local, family owned restaurant. City Café offers this is perfect fashion. Greeted at the door by Karim, the owner and host, escorted to your table, offered a great glass of Argentine Malbec all led to a very relaxed and enjoyable evening. The food was great, nice balanced menu. The waiter was attentive and engaging but not imposing. A very enjoyable experience that will have me coming back again.

Need to entertain special friends or business associates, celebrate a special family occasion or just recover from a tiring week with a delicious dinner for two professionally served in a calm hospitable atmosphere? No need to search out a different restaurant for each situation when lunch, dinner or Sunday brunch at City Café is available to meet all your dining needs and will never disappoint you.

Host Karim Alaoui greets new and returning guests warmly and sets a welcoming tone of hospitality reinforced by the professional staff. The menus are balanced with selections that have been served at City Café for years - tomato soup, crab cakes, warm cabbage salad and duck with a wild rice and cranberries side, to name a few - as well as seasonal additions. We go for the tower of lump crab meat with avocado, tomatoes and fresh mango dressed with a Louis dressing. The staff is attentive without hovering and they really know their wine. Desserts tempt those who claim never to eat dessert.

With all the effort they make at City Café to provide an excellent dining experience, how sad it is to see jacketless men indifferently attired in short sleeved shirts at dinner or Sunday brunch. Courtesy is a two way street.

When I moved to Dallas in 1991 this was one of the premier restaurants in Dallas. More than 20 years later it is still a really great place for an upscale meal, although Dallas now has so many truly excellent upscale restaurants that City Cafe is no longer at the very top. Still, the food is very good--I especially like their tenderloin. They are famous for their cream of tomato soup, although last time I was here it was rather bitter. I also love the warm blue cheese cole slaw with bacon bits. Excellent! Service is consistently top-notch: attentive, professional, and informed about the menu. This is a great place for a romantic dinner or special occasion because the ambience is upscale and the restaurant is not noisy.

I visit Dallas several times a year and always try to have at least one lunch or dinner at City Cafe.
It is a nice quiet and relaxing atmosphere for a meal with friends or business associates. The food is excellent, exceeded only by the friendly and exceptional service. I have also found their bar to pour a good drink.
