“Second only to the Mansion on Turtle Creek”
Reviewed November 6, 2010

My wife and I have been eating at this restaurant since it started about 1985, both alone and arranged family reunition dinners of twenty or so in one of the private rooms.

Has changed owners several times but is now as good as ever with an enlarged To Go eating area and the outstanding Pearson Brothers playing every Saturday night.

If you are disappointed here, take a close look at your own behavior and attitude.

Highly recommended.

“One of our very favorite Dallas restaurants”
Reviewed August 10, 2010

This is our restaurant of choice when we want excellent food and a nice white tablecloth atmosphere. I have tried many items on the menu (which changes by the season) and all have been excellent. The service is always wonderful.

We have dined here with a large group (12+) and just the two of us.

“bad service and food”
Reviewed April 5, 2010

We went to City Cafe for Easter brunch. The waitress was extremely rude. The eggs were
very over-cooked, and the food was cold. to top it off, the minute we paid our bill, we were
asked to leave because they needed our table. Altogether a very bad experience.

“The Worst Rip-Off High Tea”
Reviewed February 16, 2009

I went to City Cafe for Saturday High Tea with my girlfriend.
First of all, tea was not from loose tea leaves, they were tea bags. The inside of scone was not baked at all. When I tried to break into a smaller piece, which normally easily flakes, it was all wet dough. So I waited for another one to be served. When they brought us a fully baked one, its surface was partially burned and inside was still not fully baked. Not only that it tasted like a bad biscuit.
The last course was a plate of sweets. My chocolate dipped strawberry was not very fresh, a little piece of brownie tasted like it was made from store bought brownie mix, a mini custard tart was hard as a rock and a mini cheese cake was as good as the one you eat at a Chinese Buffet restaurant.
This was absolutely the most horrible High Tea in my entire life!
And to top it off, they charged us $25 a person plus 25% gratuity!!! This means $33.30 per person and they expected us to tip them on top of this!!! Unbelievable!
We will never ever go back to City Cafe as long as we live in Dallas.
