A short distance south of the river, across the viaduct (such as it is now) is the Bishop Art District (BAD.) It is a relatively small area, maybe 6 blocks or so, but chock full of boutiques and restaurants. Tree lined streets, outdoor seating, parking -- really a nice place to have a meal and spend a few hours. From downtown follow the signs to Oak Cliff.

This is a gem that is appreciated by residents of "The Cliff" and a big surprise to visitors. Eat at one of the restaurants and then walk around and enjoy the shops. We like to eat a good meal then shop then have our dessert at another restaurant. Don't go on Monday as most of the restaurants are closed. Hats off to Sarah Tillman and Chan Tai who hung in there when there wasn't much happening and to Hattie's who really got the ball rolling.

We live on the other side of Dallas, but we really love this part of town. Very "chill" and relaxed. This is where we prefer to get our happy hours, barbeque, and tattoos. Add in some antique shopping and other good food (sushi, pizza, new american), and that pretty much sums up this area. They also do some street festivals throughout the year, and those are always a good time. If you're looking for a funky/artsy type of area in Dallas, this is one of them!

I LOVE the idea of the Bishop Arts District. I was told to visit from out of town and I think the area is beautiful. But, I wish there was a little more shopping. I went on a weekday and it just seemed like there wasn't enough to do to last longer than an hour without eating. I hope people continue to visit and it keeps growing. LOVE LOVE LOVE the throwback store that has all the vintage and trendy throwback items. They have the nicest owners, who even gave me a gree root beer and warm welcome to Dallas. See ya next time!
