“Beautiful Place to Learn”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 17, 2014 via mobile

My wife & I made a visit to Texas Discovery Gardens recently as part of our anniversary weekend celebration. We really enjoyed our time there. The different gardens are scattered throughout the parks acreage at the Texas State Fair. There is a small wildflower garden, a formal rose garden, a tropical area, & many others, including an enormous fountain and garden that is the perfect wedding location.
Inside, there are several displays of different small snakes & other critters that you may find in your garden. All of the place is very kid friendly.
Probably the best part of the whole attraction is the butterfly house. It's a large, tropical atrium that houses over a thousand butterflies from almost 50 different species. Some are small, and some are huge! All different colors and beautiful patterns. It's hard not to constantly take photos as they land all around you.
The entrance to the house is on the 2nd floor, and a winding bridge leads you through the treetops as you walk down to the ground floor area. They have a few more displays there, and a window into the hatchery where all the cocoons are hanging. We went during the monthly entomologist walk & talk, where a facility researcher walks with a group and discusses all things butterfly and answers any questions. It was fun and informative. The whole place was wonderful and also includes children's classrooms, a film area, and a gift shop. For $8, it's a great time and a great deal.

“Wonderful place to spend the 4th!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 6, 2014

Our family went to Texas Discovery Gardens while visiting Dallas for the Fourth of July. The gardens were so pretty and the butterfly house was fantastic. The volunteers were so helpful in answering our questions. Did you know that butterflies smell with there feet? We were there at noon so we got to watch them release some new butterflies. We will definitely visit again.

“Fun place! Free for active military!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 19, 2014

The gardens were very nice, but the real attraction was the butterfly house, just a very cool experience walking through and seeing all the butterflies fly around you and land on you! Short but really fun part of a day sightseeing in Dallas, they let me park for free and I got in here free as well being active duty, so it's a win in my book. I imagine children would absolutely love this place.

“Butterflies everywhere”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 21, 2013

The butterfly garden was by far the most impressive thing to see at Fair Park. There are new butterfly's released every day and it is amazing to be able to get up close to these beautiful creatures. The staff is wonderful and will take the time to answer all questions and even point out some of their favorite butterflies.

The $8 entry is not bad, but it is small and will not take long. It is free with the Summer Adventures at Fair Park entry, the best deal in Dallas right now. All the rides, shows, and museums in Fair Park are includes for one price. A great way to spend the day.
