“Solid boutique hotel that tries a little too hard to be hip”
Reviewed October 15, 2013

Hotel Zaza calls itself an "art house and social gallery." It's located in the revitalized uptown museum district in Dallas, and like most areas in transition, there's a strong arts community into which the hotel positions itself. The hotel is well designed (though lighting is just a little too W hotel in the 90s) and the staff was kind and attentive.

And yet, I had the impression most of the time that they were working just a little too hard at all that hipness. Hipster messages on the throw pillows. Body-form wall sconces. Photos of grizzled, 70s and 80s hipsters (the original ones). The hotel also sells its art, so it really is a gallery in some ways, though not in the fullest sense as the art decorates the space, rather than the gallery space designed to enhance the presentation of the art.

The room was comfortable though mine was oddly shaped - long and narrow, so that there was about 24" or so between the foot of the bed and the armoire, and the armoire was the only closet space in the room.

The bathroom was most well done but everything was just a little too close - not that the bathroom was small, but that they put so much into the space. There was a countertop presentation of men's toiletries that was for sale at above-market prices. That felt a little too commercial.

Wifi was free.

The hotel Zaza is quite nice and unique. They pride themselves on service although sometimes they miss a bit on execution. Primarily in speed of service which is really only an issue if you are traveling for business.

The good: the hotel, bar and rooms are beautiful. The staff are very friendly and attentive. It definitely has a sexy vibe if you are into that sort of thing. They have a courtesy car that will take you anywhere within a five mile radius and they try hard to accommodate you.

The so-so: the food is not good. We were traveling for business so didn't have much time to explore restaurant options. The only thing that was decent were the fries. Seriously. The tuna dish was awful. The sliders meh. The atmosphere is nice so just have a cocktail and eat elsewhere.

Thank you for the review regarding your stay at Hotel ZaZa. I am pleased to read that you enjoyed the atmosphere of the Z! The Magic Carpet Ride shuttle is a great transporation option; I am glad you used the service!

In regards to the Dragonfly, I apologize for the less than stellar experience. Such quality is definitely not the norm at the restaurant! Please touch base with me when you have an opportunity as I would like to gather more details concerning your experience.

Excellent downtown Dallas boutique hotel. Service was fabulous in every way. Hotel staff very attentive. Party around the pool attracts Dallas locals and is lots of fun. There is a hotel shuttle to take you wherever you like within 5 miles of the hotel. Excellent service to get to great area restaurants without having to drive. I can't wait for our next girls trip to Dallas. Love ZAZA!

Zaza continues to knock it out of the park with not only themed rooms, but entire themed weekends and staff. For OU-Tx Weekend, Zaza Dallas went all out from the patio reception, inside lobby amenities, staff attire, and attitude...over the top with quality and delivery of the welcoming theme for anyone that is or isn't there for the rivalry. Truly first class service, especially from the front desk staff (Kristina!!) reception on walk in! All smiles, instant recognition and smooth transition to the room at your pace, not theirs!

Will I go back?? Just a matter of how soon!! Bravo

Room Tip: Let staff know it's your first time, and ask about room type and availability...you might be ple...

Was at Zaza for a corporate hosted event; at a cocktail party I casually mentioned to a colleague that one of the appetizers being offered would benefit from Siracha sauce. A great server was listening, asked if I wanted some, and viola! next plate come out with a bowl of sauce along with the wonderful dumplings. All the guests raved how much better the dish tasted.. and i wouldn't have happened without the server being customer-centric and listening.. and offering to help!

Also got upgraded to the "PhotoLoft" room.. amazing amentities...

Just recently stayed over for one night at the ZaZa in Dallas. Like noted in some of the other reviews, Everyone there is sooo helpful in making your stay enjoyable and very fun! I am new to the area, and they were very patient in telling me everything that I might like to do while I was staying. I have to point out, Christine at the front desk, was extremely awesome! We had some "noisy" neighbors late at night, and she took care of the problem, quickly and with some upgrades! I did not want to leave this hotel. The restaurant food was delicious, the pool area and pool bar fun (with music during day), and the fitness/spa area also was wonderful. I really can't wait to return and stay at ZaZa Dallas! I haven't even mentioned the whole "decor" of the place.... - Incredible - each floor, there are "themed rooms, bungalows, and so on!

Room Tip: I don't think you can go wrong! - each bed, you just sink into!!
