“Walking distance (w/in 2 miles) of great Dallas areas.”
Reviewed August 6, 2014

The Hyatt House Uptown is located near the trendy Uptown area, downtown, and the West End. This was a great location for my husband and I since we walk everywhere. We dined at some great restaurants and had great pubs to choose from. We were able to walk to all of the major (and minor) museums and parks in the major Dallas area. Though located on Harry Hines, traffic noise was not an issue as Dallas is a commuter town and major traffic calmed after rush hours. Construction of a condo on Wolf St does make walking from the Hyatt a little troublesome. The rates are very reasonable.

Our room had a funky odor of men's cologne that was startling upon entering but otherwise was roomy and clean. The sofa could probably use a deep clean though.

The service almost got a 100% excellent. Everyone (check-in, shuttle, and housekeeping) was very friendly and extremely helpful. I had a low power hair dryer that I asked to be traded and the house staff was at my room in 5 minutes. The "almost" came during check-out since the front desk clerk didn't know how to check me out with a split check. This was a business/pleasure trip and this was a necessity.

Breakfast had hot items and common cold items. Fresh fruit was available every day (a plus). An fresh omelet can be made to order about 30 minutes after the breakfast start time. There's a social hour M-F but we didn't partake.

The gym had a couple treadmills, an elliptical, a stationary bike and weights and is open 24 hrs. Again, I'm a business traveler so this is important to me. The stationary bike could use an overhaul. The place was a racket once someone started using the thing. The weights were a good range and in good condition.

I'd stay here again for sure.

LOCATION:

It's literally minutes from Dallas Love and that was a nice plus. At first we thought the Hyatt House was away from the happening areas but not true. There were plenty of unique restaurants/bars and pubs within a five minute walk and that made it very convenient. We also wanted to hit the many attractions (art district, Dealey Plaza and museums) Dallas has to offer and found them to be only about a 15/20 minute walk from the hotel. We always walked and never had to take a cab or their public transportation.

ROOMS/BED:

The rooms are huge (small kitchen with decent size frig, sink and micro wave, separate walk-in closet). The rooms have a separate seating area of the sleeping area which actually made the room feel much larger than it was. Our room faced Harry Hines Blvd and we thought there might be a noise issue but it was actually very quiet.

The bed was also good, no complaints. It was not the best but I had no issue with it and after staying four nights I also felt refreshed from my sleep. The pillows were just okay not bad but they could have been a bit better.

AMENITIES:

The complimentary breakfast was good and they also had a fresh omelet station were you could get cooked to order omelets and that was a nice little perk. In the evening they had happy hour with light to medium snacks and draft beer. all for a very reasonable price.

FINAL VERDICT:

I would stay here again if I were in Dallas.

Room Tip: About a mile walking distance to a ton of attractions and even closer for great food and bars/pubs.

A well run hyatt hotel is hard to beat. Pleasant stay, staff was very accommodative. Will come back.

Viva Essentials: Good wi-fi, convenient access to Katy running trail-- a big plus for those who want to exercise.
Ad Nauseam: Location is a bit of a stretch to get to downtown. Good shuttle though.

Bon Appétit

Not fancy but well equipped huge room. 2 beds, sofa, desk, full kitchen, walk in closet. Hotel staff were efficient tho couldn't quite check us in early, but it wasn't long of a wait. Good location for us as we walked to the AAC for a concert and Hard Rock Cafe for a party.

First off stayed a week. Dropped a water between the bed and table picked it up and it was covered in hair and what seemed to be pubic hair. Second the dog policy is not true. I got one complaint. They locked me out of my room and had me escorted to my room and off the premises. The Gm is extremely unprofessional. I cannot believe Hyatt would have someone in that position like him. I will never ever sTay at a Hyatt property again.

Hotel was close to a relative we were visiting, is why we pick this hotel. Hotel room was clean, and functional, but could have used some light trim work. Lobby was nice as was the breakfast and social areas. Staff was mostly friendly except a breakfast cook, who did not talk, and gave only a slight nod. The front desk ran out of complimentary newspapers at 7:00 am. everyday, we stayed for 6 days! The social hour had a good food selection, 2 selections of wine, and 2 beer selections, the 2 times that we were able to attend. Probably the most annoying situation was when our room keys stopped working, at the same time, they had ran out of towels at the pool. I spent 35 minutes resolving this with the staff.

Just stayed here for four days on the way home from mexico. We weren't really sure what to expect from Hyatt House as we've often stayed at Hyatt Recency hotels. We were very pleasantly surprised. We had a one bedroom king on the fourth floor. The bedroom was not very big but large enough for a king bed and had a tv. The bathroom was plenty large. The living room had an l-shaped couch and nice kitchen with an almost full size fridge, dish washer, two burner stove, and a microwave oven. It was really nice to be able to relax in the kitchen living room area. Typically in a hotel the only place to really hang out and relax is the bed.

We really enjoyed the breakfast that was offered. There were different options each day and many of them. We also liked the social hour offered Monday-Thursday. They had beer, wine, soda, and lite foods. Things like nacho bar, potatoes skin bar, lunch meats and cheese, bread, fruit, and cookies. It was actually pretty hearty and offered from 5:30-7 so we ended up just making that our evenings meal. You really can't beat the value if you take the breakfast and dinner into account.

The service was great.we got lots of assistance from the front desk. I would absolutely return if I am in the Dallas area again and would look for a Hyatt House again for my next travel.
