“A clean and safe place to stay in the /Medical Center and Uptown Dallas area”
Reviewed May 30, 2014

I was in Dallas a few days for a training program at the medical center. I know that area can be a little unsafe, so I wanted to find a hotel that would be safe for woman a traveling alone. I have had good experiences at Hyatt House hotels in other cities, so I booked to stay at this one. It has a very secure parking garage with gate access and entry into the building by room key. It was quiet, clean and the room was spacious. I stayed in a suite with a full kitchen and sitting area. I heard from some staff that it is having a big remodel in the very near future too. They have buffet breakfast and evening snacks with beer/ wine for happy hour. I did not make it to the happy hour, but the breakfast was decent with the standard buffet fare. I went out for dinner in the evening in the local area and there are lots of nice places to eat within a 5-10 minute drive. This is close to Oak Lawn, McKinney Ave and Lemmon Ave. The food in area ranged from fast food, to family restaurants to fine dining. There is a great take out food/ grocery store called Eatsies that is not far away either. I went to Cyclone Anaya's Mexican Kitchen and Pappadeaux and both were really good! I also went to a nice shopping center in Uptown called West Village that had cafes, shopping, ice cream and it had a trolley that ran up and down the street for transportation. I found this hotel to be a decent price for a clean and safe place to stay. It is in a very convenient location to the medical center and the other areas that I have mentioned. I would stay here again if I am back in the medical center area. The only negative is that there is early noise in the morning from construction behind this hotel. If you are traveling on work, you may not mind, but it would be disruptive if you are trying to sleep later than 7am!

This is a great find in the heart of Dallas. New hotel. Very large room with nice kitchenette. Beds soft and comfy. Large bathroom with 2nd sink/vanity outside of bathroom. Good hot breakfast. Secure parking. Easy access to the Shriners Children's Hospital. Nice addition to the Hyatt family of hotels.

We stayed for four nights while in town for a wedding. The rooms were very comfortable and spacious. Having the full size refrigerator and kitchenette was a real plus and saved some $$ by not having to always eat out. The staff was nice, helpful and responsive to our needs. For the price, the accommodations are an excellent value compared to other downtown lodging. The hotel is a bit worn, and could use a refresher, but do not confuse this with dirty or unacceptable. The staff does a great job and the facility is very clean, just a bit aged. The weekday afternoon happy hour is enjoyable and the daily breakfast buffet was just fine, not gourmet. We would stay here again!

Its mainly designed for long stays but just for 2 nights it was perfect also. The rooms are the size of alot of one bedroom apartments. 2 televisions, 2 phones nicely furnished. The kitchen was fully stocked with utensils. Great location, will def stay here again.

Room Tip: Nothing to eat at nearby, if your going to stay more than a night, might want to run to the grocery...

The rooms were super clean - and the bed was so very comfy - I REALLY didnt want to get out of it. The room was so quiet - other real issues I had which I had actually read a review saying the same thing prior to booking... was the drain in the showers Do NOT drain - it's so gross - you're taking a shower and it took over 10 min after I got out to drain - the toliets dont flush well, and the handle on my toliet was cracked and broken - I kept thinking I was going to cut my fingers. The breakfast was nice - typical hotel breakfast with the exception of they actually had someone available to make fresh omelets and real dishes being used and personnel available to help clear tables. The front desk was very nice and helpful and even gave me delivery menus so I could order some dinner the night I arrived. I would stay again - but would definetly not tolerate showers again...

Room Tip: Second floor showers didnt drain

I liked the Hyatt very much.

I came in with low expectations because of all the reviews saying that the rooms weren't that great and needed some work. My room was perfectly nice, so I wonder if the rooms have been updated or rather the rooms are different.

Foremost, the price was excellent. Dallas downtown hotels are expensive, and this was a great value alternative. The staff was super nice, and the front desk saved me from a lot of pain when I got in after a very delayed flight. The breakfast variety was pretty good; there's a slight variation each day. The afternoon social was pretty standard, basic snacks and drinks. The room was very well cleaned each day. The bed was super comfortable and everything in the kitchen worked well. The WiFi was great. They have a nice looking pool, but I didn't use it.

The location is good for a car, it's on Harry Hines, which is easy to get to from the airports. There's parking at the hotel for a charge ($12/day I think). I used it as a base for a conference in Downtown Dallas, and the long walk (20-30 minutes) was fine, but I'd hate to do that if it were hotter. There are no fast food joints, convenience stores, or supermarkets nearby. There are a few restaurants in the area, but the area is not "busy" by any standard. It's also not in the middle of "Uptown", which is a little walk away. If you use City Shuttle or Super Shuttle, you will need to call them because the hotel doesn't pop up on their address list.

Dallas is not the greatest place to do by public transportation, but there's a free bus nearby. The D-link stops at Harry Hines and Moody, a few blocks away, and the bus will take you to Downtown and Bishop Arts. Thankfully, it runs fairly frequently (about every 15 minutes). It is walkable to DMA, the World Aquarium, Dealey Plaza, and all the downtown sights (but those Dallas blocks are long).

I had a room in front, so there's some street noise. Harry Hines is heavily traveled during rush hour. Other than that, I really don't have any negatives to report.

Room Tip: Try to get a room not facing Harry Hines

The room was very large. The breakfast is better than the ones provided in Hyatt Place. It seems that from Mondays through Thursdays, they have a complimentary social hours from 5:30-7. They provide food and drinks, which I would love to try next time I go back.
