We had heard lots of good press about this restaurant and decided to go on the spur of the moment. We arrived just after they opened at 5pm to find the restaurant about a third filled. We were seated immediately and were quickly brought up to speed by our speedy and knowledgeable waitress. We ordered the fried artichoke special appetizer of the day which was wonderful. We ordered two of the pizzas (about 13 inches each) which were both fantastic. Extremely thin crust, fresh ingredients of the highest quality, bursting with flavor. Had to take almost a full pizza home for leftovers tomorrow (yeah!). Our waitress was great, the manager stopped by to make sure we had a good experience before we left and we said we would be back soon and we will be. The restaurant is very industrial casual chic, can accommodate large parties and had a nice outside dining area that we will try next time, which will be soon!

It was the end of three days at a conference in Dallas and it was raining cats and dogs; but we ventured out about 7:30 to get some dinner. We headed to the Deep Ellum part of town - a corruption of the term “deep Elm” street. Lying just east of downtown Dallas, it had its beginning as an industrial area. In more recent times it has become a neighborhood of arts and entertainment. It is known to be a prime spot for jazz and blues and trendy restaurants and shops.

We had decided on pizza and the place we picked was called Cane Rosso. They featured wood-fired pizzas. The restaurant was quite dark. We couldn’t even read the menu until our waitress lit our candle.

We ordered softs drinks and an appetizer: focaccia. It was made in their wood-fired oven too. And it was most excellent!

Our pizza was called the Chef's special pizza, with spicy sausage, smoked mozzarella, bread crumbs & Calabrian chiles. And, it too, was most excellent! This pizza gained entry into my “Top Five” category. With tax and gratuity: $37.00.

I really enjoyed this restaurant. We got the caprese for an appetizer and the Delia pizza. It was great. Perfect size for two people. I would've liked to try a pizza with meat, but it was still good. We had a great dessert pizza that was really worth it. Save room for the dessert.

This Diners, Drive-ins and Dives featured restaurant in Dallas is a must for those that want the best in pizza. Two of us enjoyed the Paulie Gee immensely. The pizza is thin crusted and cooked in a wood burned oven. The sauce and toppings were scumptuous. The place was very busy which is a good sign. We ate at the bar where the service was first rate and the beer and wine the same. The two of us highly recommend Il Cane Rosso.
