“Well done!”
Reviewed August 8, 2013

After repeated attempts to get into Lucia, we finally scored.

We did all four courses and each and every dish was wonderful. This guy is a natural and understands food without a fuss. Foams and emulsions annoy me. None of the gastrofancyschmancy silliness, just great cuisine.

The chef's wife does a great job of managing the front of the house. Our waitress was efficient, but merely OK. Fortunately, Madame made up for what she lacked. Keep in mind that we lacked for nothing, but she was just a flat-liner and seemed to be going through the motions. (I don't want to be best friends with my server, so that is not the problem.)

$187 for two with a $70 bottle of wine. A great value for what you get!

This restaurant is at the top of my list of restaurants in the USA and Europe.

“Excellence, yet again”
Reviewed July 24, 2013

Fourth time to Lucia, this time stopping by after the main dinner rush and enjoying dinner on an outside table with a friend. As always: 1). service was absolutely professional and outstanding, 2). good selection of Italian courses, 3). superb quality of everything. Very highly recommended!

“Superb evening”
Reviewed June 17, 2013

This was our first visit to Lucia. We waited for 6 weeks and it was well worth the wait.
The Italian wine was splendid and the soft crab salad was served with an excellent presentation. Our Texas Wagyu coulotte with fingerling potatoes and assorted lilies was delicious and I highly recommend this dish. Dessert was to die for. We had mousse with chocolate and bananas. The service went beyond our expecatations.
We will be back.

“Consistently excellent restaurant”
Reviewed June 1, 2013

I've eaten at Lucie at least a dozen times. I had one meal that I considered sub-par -- all the others have been excellent. The menu changes very frequently depending on what is fresh. It isn't extensive -- there will be five or six starters and that many main course choices. But there are always multiple choices that are attractive and taste great. Portions are more than ample and you won't leave hungry. Service has always been excellent and I have never found the wait staff to be the least bit condescending. The wine list is all Italian and is very well done -- also fairly priced.

Some of the less than stellar reviews of Lucia stem from the reservation system. Yes, it is a pain. But the restaurant is small and they don't rush to turn over tables. The quality of the food and wine is excellent so the place is in high demand. What can I say? It is what it is and I'm sorry that it's not a place where you are likely to get in on short notice.

The Bishop Arts District is very hip and draws a lot of people, especially on weekends. So parking can be tough sometimes. I always allow a few extra minutes just in case.

“Not worth the hoop jumping”
Reviewed May 27, 2013

We entertained 2 business colleagues at Lucia in May. One of them is an Italian American who lives in Chicago and has eaten at some of the finest Italian restaurants in the US.

First, the reservation system. The restaurant was not accepting reservations until approximately 1 month prior to the date we wished to book. This creates an issue when you want to entertain others and are not able to extend an invitation with a confirmed reservation at a restaurant. We were obliged to book another restaurant on a “just in case” basis and then cancel it once we secured our reservation at Lucia. . It was also necessary for me to call at 9:00 am when the lines opened for reservation for the day we wanted. When you’re obliged to jump through hoops to eat somewhere, expectations are high and the restaurant better be exceptional. It wasn’t

Our meal got off to a bad start. We attempted to add a 5th to our table (the last munute guest of our guest),calling the restaurant the day prior and even getting our hotel concierge involved, to no avail. We were refused based on alleged space issues. Our guest was a good sport and still came along. When we were actually seated at our table, it was clear that the table could have accommodated another.

The garlic and herb ricotta filled squash blossoms, a litmus test for an Italian restaurant, were really disappointing but the fava salad which accompanied them was delicious. Local baby lettuces with lemon, garlic, and extra virgin olive oil was good. The foie gras stuffed prunes were tasty, but the prunes were slightly dry. Our 3 half orders of pasta shared by the table were good but not really good.

I had the Berkshire pork chop which was moist and flavourful and one of our guests remarked that his branziono was outstanding.

All of us had dessert. The Carniola rice pudding with dried peach compote, caramel, and almonds was good ,but my version is superior.

We ate a lot of food: 4 cocktails, 2 bottles of wine, 3 antipasti, plus 3 orders of the prunes, 3 half orders of pasta, 4 secondi, and 5 desserts, Our bill, including tax, was $421.00, which was reasonable

Service was brusque and efficient. No grace here.

Perhaps Dallas is starved for a fine dining Italian restaurant, and that explains its popularity. For those who have travelled elsewhere and have had the opportunity to eat great Italian food, you may be disappointed.
