Owner description: The largest zoological experience in Texas, the 106-acre Dallas Zoo offers fun, educational and entertaining experiences for the whole family. The Zoo's mission is to inspire a passion for nature and conserve wildlife, and guests can see a number of endangered species and learn about a variety of conservation projects the Dallas Zoo supports. Opened in 2010, our award-winning Giants of the Savanna habitat is internationally known. The savanna features elephants, ostrich, zebras, impalas, giraffes, and guineafowl, often mingling together. The Dallas Zoo is home to a herd of five female elephants and 11 giraffes, which guests can feed by hand. Guests will see the fastest land mammal on Earth, the cheetah, as well as African lions who often spend their days sleeping just inches away from the viewing wall inside the Serengeti Grill restaurant. The Wilds of Africa area features rare animals such as gorillas, chimpanzees and okapi. Guests will enjoy getting eye-to-eye with African penguins as they swim effortlessly underwater. Highlights of the ZooNorth section include the Lacerte Family Children's Zoo, a top-rated reptile and amphibian complex featuring albino alligators, and the Koala Walkabout, featuring the only koalas in Texas, red kangaroo, wallabies, and a lorikeet feeding area for up-close adventures. For alternative transportation to the Dallas Zoo, consider the DART Red Line, which delivers guests to the Zoo's front entrance.

The Giants of the Savannah exhibit is great. Kids of all ages will enjoy this zoo. I just wish there were more employees or keepers around to ask questions about the animals.

“This zoo is wonderful”
Reviewed January 11, 2012

This zoo is huge and fun for all ages. They have gone to great lengths to create great enclosures for the animals. There is a fun kids area with a pettting zoo and pony rides, and a water play area, but don't miss the Savannah. It is amazing. Hand feed the giraffes who are positioned in the exhibit so that they are at eye level. The cafe next to the lions is a must, even if you are going just to check out the lions up close and personal. The jeep with bones in the back is also a great way to see the cats up close. This is a FULL DAY of fun, wear comfy shoes, everyone will have a great time. It is also fun to ride the train to the zoo, the Dart stops in the Zoo parking lot!

“special day”
Reviewed January 5, 2012

We had planned to include the zoo on this trip with our five year old grandson. Even though it was a hot and humid day, we were able to find shady spots to sit and sip water. Staff at various sites were knowledgable and we enjoyed learning from them, also.

“What a difference!”
Reviewed January 4, 2012

I want to add another stellar review of the Dallasl Zoo to make sure people know that it has become an amazing place to visit! I spent the day there today with my five year old granddaughter. I had not been to the zoo in twenty years (it was a dark and depressing place then) but kept hearing how different it was now. It's beautiful. There are many new exhibit areas where the animals can be viewed in their natural habitat. The Gorilla area is particularly interesting. We spent almost an hour sitting and watching the two new baby chimpanzees with their mommas. The savannah is vast with so many animals to watch.

A few things I would give a warning about. Once inside they can nickel and dime you to death... $3 to ride the monorail... $2 to ride the carousel... $7 to park... $5 to feed the giraffes... etc. The food and drinks are overpriced (like they always are in a place like this). But if you know about these things ahead of time you can plan how to get around them..

The cost to get in is $12.00. However; January and February are Penguin Days and you can get in for $5.00.

If you haven't been in a few years then you should go!

“The animals live in good condition”
Reviewed January 3, 2012

I love animals and I can't stand seeing them suffering in small cages. Thanks God, this is not the case for Dallas Zoo. Most of the animals live in huge places (especially you should see the palace of the tiger!) designed as their original habitat.
