We live on the border of the park and our back yard is adjacent to one of the favorite hiking and biking pathways. The park is in constant use and has frequent special races for runners and bikers. It is well maintained and has a wide number of scenic spots for resting and reflecting.
Very popular with families, runners, cyclists and doggie folks, this lake also offers sailing opportunities and an old bathing house now used to display art. The botanical gardens are nearby and a must see if you love beautiful gardens with water displays and lake views.
Bike here or drive here, seen some great sunsets, watch sailboats or rowers at times, and always bikers going by:)
I love going to Write Rock Lake. It is really one of the gems of the city of Dallas, do not miss a visit here if you are in the city. Great for cycling, running, walking anything outside. Great trails and a chance to view some wildlife like the green parrots.
this is a wonderful, peaceful, beautiful hike. it is completely flat, no hills at all, but very enjoyable. beware that it is 9.3 miles / 15 kms. in total, so it's easy to go 1/2 way, say, "I've had enough. I think I'll go back", without realizing it's going to be another hour and a half! but if you are in good shape, it's highly recommended.
Maybe not so hidden. To have one of the largest urban lakes right up the street is amazing. While only a few miles from downtown when you are there you feel as though you are far away from any city. The lake has a pretty cool history behind it. Lots of wildlife even occasional Bald Eagle sightings. A great thing the Dallas forefathers did right. I’m sure pulling something like that being built would take 10 years of political junk before anything happened. I will say Dallas has kept this lake “right”. They have continued to keep it all natural. They could have commercialized the heck out of it and make a lot of money with restaurants and bars all around it. I live in the area. The neighborhood would never let that happen.
