“Historic Hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 17, 2014

Very glad we chose to stay at the Magnolia. Historic building, nicely restored. Large, comfortable corner suite, with comfy bed and nice appointments. Large bathroom, kitchen area, and good views. Staff well trained and friendly, from valet to housekeepers. Nice breakfast in the AM, with happy hour in the evening. Pretty crowded but well done. Only complaint was that the elevators are very slow, and waits were long. Would definitely come back.

Room Tip: Get a suite, and a corner one if possible.

Sending Valentine Day weekend here was an ok idea. The reason why we choose the hotel was the overall romance package. We checked the car in with the valet and entered into the hotel off of commerce, which kind of leaves you completely exposed to on coming traffic. Check-in took about 30 minutes due to 1 person taking phone calls while the line continued to grow. We went to the room and dropped of the bags. We had a nice corner suite, that was excessively dated and with a queen bed, which was my fault when I booked it incorrectly. None the less dumped our bags took a quick walk around the room which was rather large. The couch was extremely old and worn, the tub was missing chunks of paint. Just overall a dingy room.
We went to the bar on level 2, which was very nice in the main foyer. Pours were decent, and they serve the full restaurant menu in the bar area. The hotel is quiet on the floors, as we did not hear anyone the entire time we were in the room.
Valet system is right on par with some of the best hotels I've ever stayed with, a simple text message and then a response of when the car is brought around. Don't worry about getting out there to quick the elevators are ungodly slow they will give you the 10 minutes they request to have the vehicle brought up.
The hotel itself is close to the west end, not much in the immediate area except high-end restaurants. Little bit of night life in the city most of it has moved north to Victory Park which is a short taxi ride or a long walk.
I doubt I would stay here again.

I actually spent a lot of time here to choose a nice hotel in Dallas. I was on vacations, so i wanted something fancy yet not too expensive. So i booked a suite for 2 nights in December. And was looking forward to it. I don't think there is particular need to describe the building or location as i lot have been said about it already. We checked in and the problems begun. We had to wait for the elevator like 15 min. My first thought was ok, probably the others are being maintained. Wishful thinking... The suite itself was big, but very dated. The furniture is just VERY old. And there were a lot of things not functioning at all. The wardrobe door for example wasn't sliding, but was just leaned on the shelves, so basically you couldn't put your jackets there. My friend and i just moved it to the side and the problem was solved. But no one from the room-service gave a damn, so the door stood there, leaning on the shelves for 3 days we stayed at the hotel. Couple of the lamps in the living-room weren't working as well, but they weren't changed or anything... Breakfast... You had to wait for elevator like for 10 minutes each time cause everyone was going there. And all 3 days only 1 (!) was working, that's nice. It is good to have at least something to eat in the morning. Take the fruit salad for example. It was good on the first and second day, but on the 3rd day it was just gone bad and sour (it was obvious that it was the rest from the previous day, I'm absolutely sure, as I'm a chef myself) and no one cared too. Have they actually tried it before sending it?! I would say no... Unfortunately... Cookies and wine are nice features too. But all in all, a lot of things happening here are just not acceptable for the price they charge and amount of stars... Wouldn't recommend...

Dear tonibulg,

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. From what I understand you had concerns with decor, some problems with furniture, noticed our elevator issues, saw some areas for improvement during breakfast, and in general you aren't interested in staying with us again. We appreciate you taking the time to let us know, and your concerns have been noted and addressed where possible.

Regards,
Ryan

I stayed here for a girls' weekend and the hotel was perfect and a great value! The room was nice, clean, quiet, and with a nice bathroom. The best part was all of the free perks- free breakfast that was decent, free happy hour, and free cookies and milk late night. The staff was really nice. It was also great that the internet was free.

The location was also pretty good. We were in easy walking distance to the JFK memorial/ Sixth Floor museum and also to the Dallas Art Museum/ arts district. We even walked to uptown although that was a bit farther away.

My only real complaint was the wait for the elevator. We'd have to plan ahead for a good 10-15 minute wait for the elevator, especially around breakfast or other busy times. It would be great if the hotel could work on this issue as it was a real pain! Another plus would be if they had adjoining rooms with both rooms having 2 queen beds. It looked like there were many adjoining rooms but weren't able to get 2 adjoining rooms with 2 beds in each room for our group.

Those are such minor complaints though. This hotel was really an amazing deal and I highly recommend it! I don't think you could do better for the price.

Room Tip: Stay on a lower floor to avoid the really long wait for the elevator.

Top notch service and attention at a very affordable price. Location is the perfect base for exploring Dallas. Easy access to transit system for short jaunts to the entertainment districts... West End, Uptown, Victory Park, Deep Ellum...you can get there from here.

This is our first trip to Dallas and the hotel was just perfect. It is located just a few blocks away from the cultural district, great restaurants, historical sites, etc. The hotel is very clean, the staff is great and the rooms are very confortable.

For the price I couldn’t imagine anything better than this hotel. If you are going to Dallas, I highly recommend it!

Room Tip: the view from rooms over the 11th floor is great.

I loved the character of this hotel. It has old school charm and all the modern ammenities. The staff is quite helpful and courteous. Breakfast, evening reception, and milk and cookies are a must! The elevators are quite slow, so I'd make sure to ask for a room on a lower level, so stairs are a backup option during peak times.
