We stayed one night here and found the beds comfortable, the room reasonably clean, the breakfast basic but filling, and the owners friendly. Unfortunately, there is also an active freight line across the street... by "active" I mean there is a whistle-blowing train, every hour all night long! If you can sleep through your alarm clock or the smoke detector or the baby crying, then by all means, plan to stay here. If you can't, you might want to reconsider.

We've stayed three times over the last 5 years, always in the upstairs suite. D'Hanis is not very often a part of our travel plans, but we make a point of staying at the Koch Hotel whenever we are anywhere near Medina County, TX. It is an old "railroad hotel" and well deserving of the name. It's just a block off Hwy. 90, and the railroad runs between the road and the hotel. No bother, it is a part of the experience to hear the trains running down the track and (surpisingly) it has never been an issue getting a good night's sleep. The two beds in the suite are clean and comfortable. The living room and parlor downstairs are well stocked with books and photos that tell the story of D'Hanis, the hotel and Medina County. Candy (the hotel owner) has offered each time to fix us a full Texas style breakfast, but we have always opted to fend for ourselves. The full sized porches offer up a welcome cool breeze in the early evening, and the sitting room in the suite has a TV to catch up with the news. I highly recommend this place as a part of your Central Texas travel plans.

Room Tip: Book the suite. Three rooms (sitting, sleeping, and bathing) for a few bucks more than the other ro...

Me and my husband stayed at this little hotel on Dec. 10 for one night. We had the Garden View Room upstairs. It has a queen bed, tv, hardwood floors with rugs and antique furnishings. The bathroom as does all the bathrooms at this hotel have the clawfoot tubs and hand held shower attachements. There are no shower heads above on the wall. The hotel is nicely furnished with antiques in all the five bedrooms and parlor area for guests. There are old pictures hanging on the wall of the history and Koch family that built this place in 1906. The rooms are very reasonable priced at 55.00 for the rooms and one suite with sitting room that is 65.00. A large home cooked breakfast by the owners awaits you in the morning. Ours was scrambled eggs, sausage, buscuits, fruit salad, pancakes, juice and coffee. This is a great little historic hotel. The only negative about this place is the hotel is close to train tracks (very close) and at night the train whistles literally blow you out of bed several times during the night. Beds were very comfortable but did not get a good nights sleep because of the the trains blowing through.

My wife and I have used the Koch Hotel as a weekend get away numerous times. Rooms are great (especially the one w/reading room) and reasonable. Close to Gardner & Lost Maples State Parks for hiking. The trains running through the night add a touch of the old. Bath tubs are nice, just wish they had showers.
