Moosehead Cafe in Crockett, Texas has wonderful Cheeseburgers with REAL hamburger meat. I had mine on an Onion Bun and it was just great. The Homemade Onion Rings are fantabulous. I had the Homemade Mississippi Mud Pie and it was divine. This was our first time to visit here. A lot of the signage in the Cafe is PRO-CONSERVATIVE, which is what I represent. I enjoyed doing business with them and if I am in the area again, I will definitely stop by..

We always try to avoid chain restaurants when traveling preferring to check out the local places. So glad we chose to stop at the Moosehead Cafe. Immediately upon entering you know this is a unique one-of-a-kind place. Very nostalgic decorating with much of it reflecting the conservative values of this part of the country - re gun ownership and political memorabilia. They are only open for breakfast and lunch, closing up at 5:00pm and closed on Sunday.

We were there on a Fri. The special was fried catfish, coleslaw, hush puppies, pickled green tomatoes and we opted for the onion rings instead of the fries - WOW! The fish was fresh, plentiful and came out piping hot. We really liked that the coleslaw wasn't mayo based and was finely chopped, asked what the ingredient was but it is a secret and we couldn't find out.
Hushpuppies were nice and moist and pickled tomatoes were good if you like that sort of thing. Now for the onion rings made fresh in house, double dipped in the batter - some of the best we've ever had. Sure wish we could have made it back for another meal but found out they were closed for dinner.

There is also a small antique store area at the rear of the restaurant and plenty of fun and unusual things to see in the main part of the restaurant.

We were too full for dessert so can't comment on that.

Waitstaff is friendly and attentive. If in Crockett head to the old town square and enjoy yourself at the Moosehead Cafe.

We found this place while on a motorcycle trip out to East Texas. They have a great menu and even better burgers!!! They were happy to let me interrogate them about "MSG" and assured me they did not use it and their burgers were made by hand daily!!! I wanted the "prime rib" sandwich...they were out of prime rib for the day though :( They also had a home cooked daily special....it was all gone too!!!
The food was great, there was a lot of neat stuff to look at in the restaurant and stuff to buy there too!!! It was located on the town square.

We will go back there when we are headed out that way again!!!!!!

On our way to Houston we took a wrong turn and ended up in Crockett. Searching for antiques we spotted the Moosehead Cafe across the street, we asked the owner of the antique store if the food was any good at the cafe across the street, he said it was pretty good. Local advice is worth taking most of the time and it was a good choice this time. Great food and atmosphere oozing out of every corner. It's worth a try.
