“Great location but poor accomodation!”
Reviewed January 24, 2010

We booked for 3 nights over the Australia Day long weekend and left after 2. Whilst the location is fantastic, the apartment lacked in comfort. It was tired and needed a paint job, new carpets and furniture. We stayed in number 24 and it was 5 degrees hotter inside than out. It was directly opposite a very noisy air conditioning unit for the hotel complex over the road that ran 24/7, and because you needed all windows open during the night to breath, it was very difficult to sleep. We woke up tired and cranky as a result. These apartments need aircondictioning units fitted retrospectively and double glazed tinted windows to not only keep out the noise, but also the neighbours. There were other units that look directly into these apartments and having to have the windows and blinds open just to breath, there is no privacy. Also the dirty clothes basket in the laundry was filthy - it looked like it hadn't been cleaned out for months. The pool whilst a great size was murky on both days. We won't be staying again and wouldn't recommend this accomodation provider.

We are not airconditioned and advise potential guests of this. All units do have ceiling fans. Kings beach has become a popular holiday destination and unfortunately privacy can be an issue anywhere that is popular. The particular unit has had new carpet and furnishings within the past 2 years and had a new kitchen in 2009. We meet stringent 3.5 star standards, Guests requiring 4-4.5 star accomodation need to book same.

Casablanca is an older style apartment complex. It is located accross the road from Kings Beach.
Positives
Spacious 2 bedroom self catering apartments, reasonably priced
Clean and generally well maintained (except for a few annoying exceptions)
Close to fabulous playgrounds (for little kids)
Very nice pool area
Convenient to restaurants, shops etc
Negatives
Older style furniture and fittings (fair for the price) except kitchen bin was missing a lid (a small thing that could and should have been fixed), laundry tub door was rusting and falling off its hinges. The unit smelt a bit stale.
Noisey area, we'd stayed in the apartment complex next door previously and decided to give the area another try as family were nearby but Saturday night was party central (in the park accross the road and the function centre next door).
Stairs (good exercise I guess!)

Maybe we have been spolit but we really missed not being on the beach - the wonderfulo views, falling asleep with the sound of the waves at night. If that's not important to you, and you don't mind a bit of sat night noise whereas convenience to beach, shops, restaurants is paramount, especially if you don't have a car then Casablanca is a good 2-3 star Caloundra option.

The units are continually going through refurbishment so we now advertise unrefurbished unit if it is not up to standard. As to noise we are one of the quiest spots on the Sunshine coast, yes the odd function on a saturday night but few & far between and as everyone is on holiday most guests love the atmosphere

We stayed for five nights at Casablanca Beachfront Apartments with my mother-in-law, husband and three children aged 6, 4 and 2. We booked a three bedroom apartment. The best part of this accommodation is that it's a self contained three bedroom roomy apartment (three storey apartment building) with small pool and BBQ facilities - but it would have to be in the best location possible. The apartment itself was old, and was in need of refurbishment. We were on the third floor, which involved quite a lot of stairs - no lift (so we had challenges with my 70 yo mother-in-law and smaller children) but it is situated just across the road from the beach, from all the playgrounds (like at least 6 brand new beach playgrounds), the play water fountain, the salt water beachside public pool (free), the superb Kings Beach and the Coloundra Surf Club which overlooks the beach and has great meals (and is kids friendly). It's also a short distance (under 5 minutes drive / 12 min walk) to Caloundra strip shopping which would have to be one of the best shopping strips I've ever encounted. It is also only 20 min drive from the Australia Zoo, and under half an hour to the Big Pineapple. If you have mobility issues/ small children, request a lower ground floor (but you may forgo water views) and expect an old apartment without airconditioning, but with fans, dishwasher, washing machine, and central bathroom with plenty of hot water - and of course situated beachfront in absolutely the best location possible.

  • Liked — The Location
  • Disliked — Old apartment (needs refurbishment). No air conditioning. No Lift - stairs.
