Hard 8 came highly recommended by a number of coworkers that had done work in the Dallas area. It's very convenient coming to or leaving DFW airport, just expect it to be busy and the parking lot is a little confusing. However walking up and picking your meat off the grill and then going inside to pick your sides is a great experience, just don't overdo it or you'll have a ton of takeout to go with you. The brisket was the best I've ever had and the bacon wrapped shrimp were a nice add-on and you get a great value for what you pay.

First time to a real Texan BBQ restaurant and looking forward to the next time. It tastes great and you can eat A LOT. Feels like you're being herded towards the entrance but before you know it you're standing in front of a huge grill and the biggest challenge you face is choosing what to eat because it all looks so good!! Next come the part I found most amusing as a first timer, your food is unceremoniously hurdled onto a tray, no plate or anything. Then you get your drink, you get to choose your dessert and you sit down in what must have been a barn at some point in time. Beware, go EARLY! We got there well before lunch time, and we made it jus in time! Considering the taste, the quantity and the price I'm not surprised it is such a popular place.

Have read a few of the reviews on this place and don't really agree with many of them so sharing my own experience as I eat here often.

Pros:
-Love the smoker as the meat comes out very tender if you are having brisket, turkey or sausage
-The dipped turkey is really good (not good for you)
-The creamed jalapeno corn is good
-The vibe is good and much better than your average BBQ place
-The pinto beans are good (free)
-Love the Hot Links are great.
-Good bar
-Live music on weekends

Cons:
-the steaks to me are a bit expensive and not very tender
-the kernel corn is not very good to me (bland)
-they don't have enough side choices (the salads are bad and few others)

Overall, its fairly pricey, but you get what you pay for.

After all of the hype, our group of six in Dallas on a business trip were excited to visit Hard Eight. Unfortunately, it turned into more of a poorly-executed tourist event than a nice dinner out with colleagues.

Entering the restaurant, it was fun to smell the wood smoke and see the grills where the various meats and hot side dishes were being held. Our group was invited to move over to the left side grill when it opened, so the food we obtained may have been sitting for a while, which ended up being a problem. We selected our meats, and then passed through the door to the dining area where we selected side salads, sauces, desserts, and beverages. Had we been there before, or if there had been a better explanation before we selected our meats, we would have likely opted for less meat and more sides…so much food!

The meal was of mediocre quality. The beef brisket and ribs were dry and overdone, the bacon wrapped shrimp were tasteless, and the chicken was tough. The beer selection was good, but as a wine drinker, I found the selection to be very basic. The piped-in country music was so loud it was nearly impossible for us to carry on a conversation. The staff was the highlight – very friendly, eager to serve.

It was an OK experience…once. Too pricey for what you get. On future visits, we’ll seek out restaurants with better food.

This experience was amazing you walked straight into the grill and had an incredible amount of food to choose from! Highly recommend the chicken kebab they were delicious! Great selection of salad which all looks home made- just keep piling on the tray no plates here ;)
