Made reservations 5 days ahead of time for a party of eight. Upon arrival we informed them there would only be 6 of us for my granddaughters birthday celebration. Once seated, one of our guests called and informed us he got off work early and would be there in 10 minutes; we saved a seat for him. The waitress was very kind and took our drink orders. When she brought the drinks back she asked if we could all slide over so the empty chair would be on the end for other patrons. We explained our son was on the way and we would order for him. Everything was fine. Then the "hostess" (she had a bit of an attitude when we arrived and informed her of the change in the number of our party) came to our table and asked us to slide over. We repeated what we had just told the waitress - that our son would be there in 10 minutes and we would order for him. She was obviously not happy and again asked us to slide over. We repeated that our son would be there in 10 minutes. She went away. The manager came and ask us to slide over. We attempted to explain to him that our son was on the way and we had informed the waitress and hostess we would order for him. He was extremely rude. We told him we were not sliding over, the chair was for our son who should be walking in the door anytime and that we had informed the lovely waitress that we would order for him, thus not holding up dinner preparation. The manager has NO interpersonal or customer service skills and continued to be rude. With drinks on the table and orders already placed for 6 appetizers we left and went to another restaurant to celebrate our granddaughters birthday. We spent $290 at the 2nd restaurant and would have spend more than that at Atami. I will NEVER return to this place....

The restaurant was busy and the wait was long as noted by some other reviewers, even though we had a reservation. But we were visiting with family so we just talked the time away and it didn't matter. Once we were seated, things went smoothly. The food was good (hey it's not authentic Japanese, it's just a show) and the chef was funny and good at his job, even though he was a college kid. All in all, an enjoyable evening - entertaining and plenty to eat if you go for the full hibachi dinner. Pretty reasonably priced also. Just plan for a longer evening than usual.

My wife and I took our youngest to Atami on her graduation day. She's our little Aggie. The food was extraordinary as were the drinks and service. Quite the memorable evening. I can see why it is my daughter's favorite. A nice way to say goodbye to College Station. I highly recommend this place, but get there early to avoid the inevitable line that apparently forms for dinner.

Have been going to Atami for the last 4 years but will NEVER go again unless there is a change in management! The manager "Tony" was probably the rudest person in food service I have ever seen. He lost about 20 customers today who will never return. Owners take note! This guy is running your restaurant out of business!!! There were probably less than 25 people during the lunch hour today, and 15 of them were in my party! Service from "Tony" was beyond deplorable. He was rude to a lot of people that we saw, actually rolling his eyes at a costumer trying to get seated with his wife and young children. Unbelievable! I predict that unless "Tony" gets the sack, this restaurant will either be shut down by the Health Dept. (It was pretty filthy) or they will close for lack of business. Absolutely the worst excuse of a manager I have ever seen. He ruined the whole dining experience.

As for Hibachi style dining, this was on par with most--and they are generally entertaining. We were one of the lucky tables that had an authentic chef--not a college kid dressed up like one. The food was great, the sushi was delicious (try the roll that is fried crawfish tail, topped with steak--it's great), and everything was rather enjoyable.

The only downside was the wait. We didn't have reservations, and had to wait about an hour to get a table--luckily the bar was easily accessible and the provides a good lace to mingle and relax.
