Café Eccel does a great job with their food but their service is a lot like Forrest Gump's box of chocolates, you never know what you are going to get. The last visit occurred when the restaurant was fairly empty and service was slow and unattentive. It took three times to flag the server down to get drink refills. If this were a one time thing, it could be attributed to a poor server but it happens a large percentage of the time so this is clearly a management problem.
On the food side, Eccel has great desserts. The steaks are good, the wood fired pizzas are generally good and they have some excellent fish. Try their signature strawberry tart.
The restaurant can get a bit loud when it is crowed but that is a function of being in a old historic building (it was once city hall).
The cost of Eccel is about the same as the pricey restaurants in town. Our meal for two was $92.00 plus tip for two entrees, one dessert and three drinks.
