I cannot say enough good things about this hotel. Now, if you are looking for something more than a value hotel...go somewhere else. But, for a cost-effective place with good location to restaurants and the university campus, this is great!
We were there with a group of 60 kids on a very busy weekend where two large school groups were staying, as well as their regular weekend travelors. We were with one of the school groups, but not official chaperones. When I booked the room, i asked for a top floor room, away from the elevator. We were given exactly what I booked. It was adjacent to our school group, but at the end of the hall and the room was extremely quiet. Really...there were over 100 kids at this hotel and I did not hear a "peep" all night. There was a bit of road noise, but that is difficult to avoid if you want a location right on the freeway. The rooms are rather large, were clean, and well appointed with large flat-screen TV, microwave and small fridge. Internet access is free and worked easily and quickly. We were given the code upon check-in and had no trouble connecting. The only negative comment on the room would be the towels. They seemed to be a bit "small" and were were given two bath towels for two adults. I heard from other rooms that they didn't get any bath towels...which they didnt' realize until they were in the shower!
There is a breakfast room off the lobby and our group had meetings, breakfast and a lunch (delivered from Newk's) in this area. Breakfast was pretty standard for a budget hotel. But, the staff opened it almost 45 minutes early for our students and things were clean, well-stocked, and the tables were constantly cleared. It was fine to get you started in the morning. Waffle machine, eggs and sausage, pastry, cereals, yogurt...the standard stuff.
Now...the staff...AMAZING!!! When we checked in, the woman (I am sorry I didn't get her name) at the front desk was extremely friendly and chatted about our group, let us know they had just left for dinner, where they would have their meeting when they returned, and confirmed the type of room request I had made. (Really...I don't always get this type of treatment at a "starred" hotel.) Then, in the morning, Dharmesh Patel was at the front desk and was suberb in customer service. While trying to get a large group of students through breakfast and into costumes, checked out of the hotel, and loaded on buses...he was friendly, patient and extremely helpful. He provided a scissors, pens, ice bucket...a multitude of items needed. After we had our catered lunch in their breakfast area, we cleaned up and tried to haul out our own trash and he kept insisting they would be happy to do it. He went above and beyond customer-service.
Actually, everyone we encountered at this hotel did the same. When traveling with groups - especially students - people assume they will be loud and annoying. But, our group was warmely welcomed. I'm ready to book us for next year!
Thank you to all for making this a great weekend event.
(Also Olive Garden restaurant is a short walk across the parking lot. Great so you don't need to even take the car/bus out again. And, less than 10 minutes from Reed Arena and Kyle Stadium.)
