I like Hyatt Place hotels and stay at them often for business travel. The College Station Hyatt Place is like the other Hyatt Place hotels and very nice, comfy, clean, and a step above most other motel choices in College Station. However, this Hyatt Place holds travelers hostage with a truly exorbitant rate on A&M football weekends (in excess of $300 a night), a rate higher than much nicer 4 and even 5 star hotels I have stayed at, and they have a policy requiring that the room be held with a credit card that is charge regardless of whether you show up because of a no cancellation policy. While I understand they may have issues with last-minute cancellations, they fail to take into account return travelers or Hyatt gold customers, and they get away with it because they are in a small town where there is not much choice. I find it obnoxious of the owners. Nevertheless, it is a nice little hotel. The staff tries hard but is young and inexperienced, and I had to laugh at some of the things they said and recommended. Training in a small town is clearly lacking. Would I stay here again? Maybe -- there are other decent choices with larger rooms for significantly less money, and more reasonable policies, that I would probably choose instead for a football weekend.
