“Very Nice. Lots of sea shells. Free admission.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 27, 2013

After visiting another free area museum, Sea Center Texas (recommended), we headed over to this little gem. Lots of sea shells which are fascinating to this land locked Kansas family. Other natural science items, such as fossils, dinosaurs, some animals and butterflies. Very clean, nice restrooms, friendly volunteer. Interesting place to spend an hour or two.

“Free and Educational!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 6, 2013

The Brazosport Museum of Natural Science is located inside a complex that houses two performing art theaters, a small gallery of local artists' work, an art league work room, and the museum. There is also a planetarium! The complex is part of the college, but is set far from the main college area and has its own parking.

At first the museum really scared me by its 1970's look, but it's actually quite good for its size. It has a huge shell collection, as well as some minerals and other things mentioned on its website. Some of the displays had some great information on them. There is a weaver bird nest with information and graphics on how the nest is built step by step. There is a display of Texas shells along with models of what the organisms look like when they are alive and inhabiting the shells. There is a small dark room in the back that has minerals with a timed display of UV light showing their fluorescent properties. There is a display of regular colored shells and their albino counterparts. Once I got past the very old feel to the place, I was impressed.

Overall, I think the museum is worth the trip from Houston. We visited this museum and Sea Center Texas in the same day. Both are free and really interesting and educational.

“Museum, Art Gallery, Planetarium and Theater”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 29, 2013

The Fine Arts Center located in the College grounds has all these wonderful, facilities. During the summer months there are programs for children and the Theaters have on going performances. They just finished the musical Les Miserable. The Art League changes its shows once a month and has a reception for each show. they also have hand crafted jewelry for, sale as well as art work. The Museum sells shells as well as having a wonderful, exhibit.

There is no fee for the museum or gallery a small fee for,the evening planetarium shows and of course a fee to,see, the performances.

“If you love Seashells, you can't miss this!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 8, 2013

I fell in love with this little museum! It was room after room, drawer after drawer of sea shells! (there are other things, too, such as a room with natural minerals from the state of Texas that glow in the black light and a nice collection of Jade artwork) And best of all- there is no charge to go!

“Outstanding natural history museum”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 12, 2012

This museum was a big surprise. Located on the campus of Brazosport College, it has been rated as one of the top ten museums in Texas. The collections are beautifully presented and include outstanding exhibits of shells and butterflies from around the world. Other great exhibits include fossils, with a complete standing dinosaur skeleton, rocks and minerals, archeology, and a beautiful exhibit of jade and irvory carving. The butterfly and moth exhibit is surrounded by an exhibit of Texas wildlife and birds. This is fun for the whole family and a must-stop for visitors in the area. Brazosport Art Gallery is also located in this same building, featuring artwork from local artists.
