This was our first visit to this resort and we really had a great time even with a few glitches. First off the room was spacious, clean and with a great bathroom. We overlooked the horses which was a plus for our children. Tons of activities for the kids to participate it. We decided to do the GPS scavenger hunt which was fun but rather pricey. I really think that it should be priced by family and not individual. We also did the rock wall and zip line. So much fun! There were great activities that were put on by the recreation department. The highlights were the foam pit and the gyroscope. Everyone was so kind and helpful. The employees seem to really enjoy their job.

Our glitches were in the Firewheel Cafe. First off, the service was awful. it was not uncommon for us to have to go get a pitcher to refill our own water and orange juice. We even had to remove our own buffet dishes. I could partially understand if the restaurant was busy but we were never there during prime time. Also, the busboy dropped half eaten food bowls that he brought to our table all over the top of our 5 yr old. The busboy felt really bad and apologized repeatedly. While I understand accidents happen it would have been nice if a manager would have come by to apologize himself. If this would have happened in any other restaurant the manage would have especially when it involves a small child.

We had a great time and hope to come back but the dining service needs to drastically improve.

Thank you so much for sharing your review! We are delighted that your family chose to spend Spring Break with us. We are so glad to know that you enjoyed the activities and amenities offered. Thank you for the suggestion on pricing the GPS scavenger hunt. We will share that suggestion with our team. Your feedback is important to us, and we thank you for detailing your experiences in Firewheel. What you experienced in the lack of prompt service and lack of attentiveness from management is not our standard, and we sincerely apologize for this. Your experience will be shared with our entire team and we will take this opportunity to evaluate our processes, and ensure that this situation will not happen again. We'd love the opportunity to welcome you back and improve upon your Lost Pines experience, and we hope to welcome you back soon.

Lost Pines is a great place to get away for a few days with the family. I emphasize "family"; if you are looking for a quiet couples-getaway it is probably not the best choice since the place is alive with young kids.

My one criticism of the place is the size of the pool. From a distance it looks huge, but upon further examination this is an optical illusion created by the fact that the lazy river butts-up against the pool making the pool look bigger than it really is.

I would definitely recommend the activities sponsored by the McKinney Roughs on their land next door to the Hyatt. We did the wall-climbing\zip-line and the sunset river rafting, and both of our kids (9 & 10) loved it.

Hyatt is smart about how they have contrived this resort; it is just far enough from Austin to make it a great getaway destination, yet just far enough away to make leaving the resort a pain. Thus, you do most of your dining & recreation on the grounds.

The food is good, but not great. The rooms are clean, surprisingly quiet and very comfortable. The staff was great. The provided activities were fun for the most part, but if you really want to enjoy the resort to its' fullest you are going to want to engage some of the additional pay-as-you-go activities.

We will be back!

Thank you so much for the review of your recent stay with us. We are so delighted that your travels brought you here, and that you would like to return. The team at McKinney Roughs will be thrilled to know that your children enjoyed the rock wall/zip-line and we will be sure to pass along your sentiments with the entire team. Your feedback is very important to us, and we take your thoughts with great consideration. Thank you for your candid comments regarding the size of the Crooked River Water Park, and quality of food. We will use that as an opportunity to evaluate these things. We sincerely look forward to welcoming you back and thank you again for staying with us.

The rooms are very nice with balconies, a bath, shower and refrigerator. It is about 30 miles east of Austin. It has golfing, horseback riding, children's activities, swimming, a lazy river, fishing, running and hiking trails, great work out facilities, and delicious food. Lloyd will fix you the best made-to-order omlette that you've ever eaten. We were a family of 5 with 3 adult children. We enjoyed our stay!

Stayed 3 nights, business conference, great staff and facilities. The brunch was the best. Will definitely stay here again. Evening walks by the river are very relaxing. Did not get a chance to go horse back riding, maybe on our next visit. Enjoyed sitting around the fire pitts and talking with friends.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a balcony, great to sit on the balcony and have a cocktail at night or coffee in...

We have been guests at this property, with 2 young children and as just a couple. The resort is extremely kid-friendly and has so many activities to keep the kids busy. The lazy river and swimming pools were amazing. The staff is friendly & helpful. We did the horseback riding, and had a lot of fun. For a couples weekend, we went to the spa & played golf. The spa was clean, the staff there was knowledgeable and also friendly. The golf course was beautiful. The staff at the pro-shop and on the course went over and above to help and make us feel at home. We walked along the river, on the nature path. It was so peaceful. I can not recommend this resort enough. You will not be displeased.

My 6 year old son loved this place. He played soccer and played on the playground in the morning. We also spent some time in the video game arcade room. Then the whole family took a ride around the grounds on the horse drawn carriage. In the afternoon we rented bicycles and rode around the resort. We even enjoyed teaching our son how to play checkers on the large checker board in the lobby. The evening was the most fun with s'mores and a movie on the lawn. The resort is absolutely beautiful and the staff is very friendly. I really liked how the staff interacted with my son. We can't wait to come back in the summer so we can use the pool and lazy river.

I stayed here for one night. My visit was during Spring Break, and I will say there were tons of kids around. This resort is definitely a family style place rather than a luxury resort. Upon arrival you will have a long and windy drive from the road to the resort. Don’t try this if you have had a drink! There is both valet and self-parking. I did self which is a bit of a walk to the lobby. There are usually people in golf carts to give you a lift back though, which was nice. Check in was easy and all of the staff I met were very friendly. The room is a nice size although I didn’t care for the décor. The bathroom is a good size also but not luxury. It had tile floors, a small tub and a separate shower. I had a balcony which is really nice, except that all balconies connect so you have no privacy. There appeared to be tons of activities for the kids and families. I didn’t participate in any, so I can’t comment. Overall my stay was fine, but for the price I would not stay here again as a single person. My rate, including all fees was $400.00. Given that I didn’t partake in any of the amenities it wouldn’t make sense to spend that much, unless of course it was a lovely hotel.
