We spent a very relaxing weekend in Dittmar House on the ranch. On arrival, we used the map that had been emailed to use to find our way there with no problems at all. We had only just pulled up when Mike and Brandy (the ranch managers) pulled up outside to welcome us. The door was already open and our keys and an information pack were all ready for us. The cabin was spacious and had two bedrooms, although the adjoining door between the two bedrooms and the lack of a curtain on of the bedrooms windows meant that really only the back bedroom was usable. It was rustic looking but clean and tidy. The bathroom had an old-fashioned bathtub with a shower head and curtain, so was perfect for either a bath or a shower.

Mike and Brandy invited us to tour the ranch with them in the morning, to feed the animals. While a 7am start didn’t really sound all that appealing, we were so glad that we went! We got to see all of the animals, some of which are in areas that you cannot access on your own. The tour was really informative and made us feel so welcome and at home; they are a lovely couple.

Then we hired one of the ranches golf carts and went off on our own to explore some more and take some photos. This was a great option for me, as I am allergic to horses. Then in the afternoon we did some clay pigeon shooting, which as a small, skinny thing I found impossible, but my husband really enjoyed it!

In the evening, we went for dinner at Carol’s restaurant and the food was fabulous. But be aware…this is only open at weekends! There didn’t appear to be any other restaurants in Cat Spring.

One piece of advice is to make sure you were insect repellent, as my husband received a few nasty bites.

We will definitely return to Blisswood in the future, it’s the perfect getaway from it all.

Awesome! A great place to relax. The ranch has several very quaint houses that were all very clean. A fantastic experience in joining the team feeding the camel, emus, deer, bison, kangaroo, horses and many others. Very close to Houston yet very much in the country. We had a quiet and relaxing weekend appreciating "God's creation".

We have been going to Blisswood for the past four years, and will continue for years to come. Our son was 3 when we first went there and he still calls it 'our ranch.' We usually take one or more of our dogs whom all love the new smells and fresh country air. It is a place for us to slow down and reconnect as a family. And only being a little over an hour outside of Houston, it is a world away from the bustle and rush of city living. The new staff are wonderful too. Mike is extraordinarily knowledgable about so many things and is amazing with kids. Brandy is responsive and very helpful. And if you haven't eaten at Carol's resturant, you are missing a great meal.

Recently we had the pleasure of celebrating our wedding anniversary at BlissWood B&B.
From their rather lengthy list of accomadations we selected the "Log Cabin" which while being a bit dark (in keeping with the late 1800's time period) was comfortable, charming and furnished with antiques.
BlissWood differs from most B&Bs in that the food for your breakfast (juice, coffee/tea, milk, muffins etc) is stocked in your kitchen and you prepare it when you want to eat which allows for sleeping in and doing things on your schedule.
The "elderly" gas stove we had was a bit of a challenge but not really a problem and it fit into the farmhouse kitchen decor perfectly.
We loved sitting in the rocking chairs on the front porch enjoying our coffee and watching the antics of the dogs, cats, peacocks, chickens, donkeys, pot bellied pigs and the beautiful horses grazing out under the huge old oak trees.
We plan on returning soon with our grandchildren for another great weekend.

Blisswood was a wonderful vacation for my family. The staff is excellent, the ranch is beautiful and relaxing. We experienced a true working ranch with all the ammenities. I would recommend this wonderful experience to anyone. My 2 year old granddaughter loved feeding the animals on the feeding tour, we loved waking up to the sounds of the ranch and beautiful sunrises.

We stayed in the Texas Farmhouse last weekend. It was perfectly relaxing and rustic. We had space to spread out and plenty of quiet on a rainy weekend.
