My husband and I celebrated our first anniversary at Blisswood for two nights one weekend and had a wonderful experience! We stayed in the Enchanted Cabin which was exactly what we were looking for--cozy, secluded and affordable. We were there two nights and I used the amazing jaccuzi tub four times! We loved being able to bring our dog and basically have her be leash-free the entire weekend. She swam in the lake, chased lizards and ran through the beautiful fields (It's August in Texas and the grass at Blisswood was remarkably green and lush!).

We turned off our cell phones and spent the weekend cooking (Enchanted Cabin has a full kitchen), drinking wine and champagne, and reading. We did walk to the petting zoo area and met a couple friendly families, but we stayed to ourselves most of the weekend. Everyone we talked to seemed to be having a really great experience too.

I noticed some of the poor reviews mentioned the horses health, but my husband (who grew up in the country with horses and other animals) commented on how beautiful and well-groomed they were. We didn't see a shred of evidence that the animals were not taken care of properly.

The only scheduled activity we participated in was a couple's massage. I love massages and get them as often as our budget allows and this one was nice. Certainly not the best one ever, but it was a relaxing hour and we liked that they came to us.

Overall, we loved our relaxing anniversary weekend and it was exactly what we were looking for. We are hoping to go back one winter in the future so that we can enjoy Blisswood without the Texas heat.

Thanks for your review and so happy you had made some great anniversary memories here. I'm glad you turned off your cell phones. BlissWood was created as a place to come to unplug. Thanks also for mentioning the fact that the animals are well taken care of. I watch them constantly and make sure they are healthy. See you again soon, I hope!

My husband and I spend a weekend at a different bed and breakfast each year for our wedding anniversary. This year we picked Blisswood in Cat Spring, TX. We are quite fond of antiques and rustic decor so we picked the Log Cabin. We were not disappointed. The cabin was well built. The furniture and appliances were quite neat to use. The gas stove was made by Firestone and the GE refrigerator had the coils on top. Oh yes there was electricity and air conditioning so it wasn't too rustic! We had a wonderful dinner at Carol's at Cat Spring. The ribeye was large and juicy, potatoes were the best we've had, and we even had some complementary watermelon granita which was very refreshing! We do recommend renting a golf cart to explore the 500+ acre land which is full of photo opportunities.

We had an excellent weekend. It was great to get away from it all. The Enchanted Cabin is very private and you feel as though you are the only ones there. Massages were great as the girls came to your accommodation. Picnic was wonderful. Weekend was exactly as I hoped it would be.

Being located only 1 hour from Houston is just an added benefit...we stayed at the Dog Trot and enjoyed every minute. Accommodations were excellent and it's such a beautiful ranch. Good fishing, swimming, golf carting and relaxation. We will be back!

As my title to this review indicates, staying at Blisswood was pure "Serenity." I did some internet research for places that offered a weekend get away with pure relaxation. I came across Blisswood and decided on making it our mini-vacation location. It was a great choice, which my mother and fiance agreed. My fiance and I own a collision shop in Dallas and we undergo quite a lot of stress. We felt so much better after staying at such a tranquil place as Blisswood. We have already recommended it to my sister and her husband.

Carol's restaurant has a fabulous setting with great food.

This was our second visit to Blisswood. The first time we stayed on the Lehman Ranch in the Dog Trot house. Carol made sure that everything was just right since it was our engagement! This time we brought our friends and we stayed at the Oasis in the Gates house. we were able to really - Truley relax!! That was the whole idea!

It was very warm as usual so we took a cool refreshing dip in the pool and just chilled out.....

Our friends are now planning an event with their family....Bravo!

We were looking for a Bed&Breakfast near the Houston area for our anniversary and we were very excited to find BlissWood. We booked for a Saturday night stay and drove up even earlier than check-in and was able to get to our lodging at Harriet's House upon our arrival..Robert was very helpful telling us where to go. We were thrilled with the Oasis...just 1.8 miles from the Ranch. Everything was set up very nice for us including a breakfast for Sunday morning already in the fridge.

We enjoyed strolling around the tropical surroundings at the Oasis and then decided to drive to Blisswood to look around. What a beautiful breathtaking place! Century old oak trees all around the property along with fields of beautiful wildflowers blooming in the pastures. We took tons of pictures.

We had reservations at Carol's Restaurant that night and it was beyond our expections. The Black and Blu Steak was out of this world! So tender and cooked to our specification. We got to meet Carol who was a wonderful person and we enjoyed talking with her. She was very helpful in making reservations for our stay. It's like catching up with an old friend...it was as if she knew us because she remember it was our anniversary and we got a corner table by the window. Thanks Carol! The staff at the restaurant was so nice and the food...well you know...awesome!

The next morning we enjoyed our breakfast at the bar in our cottage and then had our second cup of coffee on the balcony. We just enjoyed the peace and quiet and then packed up to go down to the stables for our horseback ride and picnic lunch.

The horses were already saddled and ready. We are experienced riders but never get a chance to ride a gaited Paso Fino...so it was a joy! We rode for about an hour through the wildflowers in the pastures and through the trails until we came onto Exchanted Lake where our golf cart for the ride back and our picnic basket awaited us.

The sandwiches were wonderful and we enjoyed our lunch under the oak trees beside a creek that runs into the lake....talk about peaceful! The only thing I would suggest for the picnic basket would be some hand wipes for your hands before you enjoy the fabulous lunch because I can guarantee if you ride the horses down to your lunch...you are gonna pet them up a storm because they are so sweet...however "King", my horse was the 'boss' lol....loved him!

So, Carol, we will be back! We love Blisswood! Thanks for making our weekend so special and memorable! We will never forget it! :)
