I stay at lots of properties around the UK and some are outstanding and some are like this, average to be honest, it is all well and good going in to the rental market but for me there is no excuse for a lack of effort and taking it for granted that bookings will keep coming in month after month.
No excuse is there for a a dirty oven, dirty television, dirty microwave and old pots and pans, just like the previous comments, nothing had been done to address the issues, I knew about the drinking water not passed as fit for consumption but actually this is a real problem and whether bottled water is available it is just a strain to use it for washing up and cleaning teeth etc.
Couldn't also get the shower to work and also the television internet was often losing reception.
Now on a positive note, fire place is great and was ready to light on arrival and the location is okay.
Must say that not once did the male owner of the property wave or smile or even speak to us at all, the lady owner obviously did and was pleasant enough but also seemed fed up at having to clean these rooms on guest departure.
Would I stay here again, well no I wouldn't, just got the sense of neglect in the property and when the competition is strong, it is a no brainer that 100% effort should be put into the property for a guest on arrival.
Off course I will get a reply to my comments for the defence, but as I say, I stay at lots of properties and I know my stuff, sorry guys!!

Everything was perfect. From the amazing location, to the wonderful owners and accommodation. No request was too big and we were made to feel very much at home. The walking routes are literally on the front door with many beautiful sights to see. We really couldn't fault the place.
I have stayed here bi yearly for some time now. Its a wonderful setting to 'get away from it all'. It is clean, comfortable and well presented with a real fire which really give the homely feel. The area the cottage is set in is really beautiful and there are many walks straight from the front door. Great local pub too!! The owners,Jean and Mal, are so welcoming and lovely people. Also very knowledgeable. I always look forward to staying here. See you soon. Sarah
We had high hopes for Beck Cottage, as it was the second most expensive of 10 holiday homes we booked on this trip overseas. The location is stunning, and a number of very good walks begin from the back door. It is also certainly cosy on a cold night with the curtains shut and the fire going. However, while there is evidence that this was once a great place to stay, it has sadly been neglected - inside and outside. As an example, the phone and books for visitors' use in an adjacent barn are covered with poo from the birds nesting overhead. The baking dishes and frying pan were rusty and the cupboards smelt so musty that we kept them open as much as possible. The water has been deemed by a local authority as unsafe to drink, and while some bottled water was provided, it is a nuisance when preparing food and brushing teeth, and prospective guests should be advised of this in advance. The owners were very understanding and tolerant when we lost track of the date and returned late from a walk when we should have checked out 5 hours earlier!
good area to explore north Yorkshire moors a wonderful base. owners very friendly, very clean accommodation, and a real log fire if required, also a small welcome pack which makes you feel very welcome. cannot recommend enough
