My family LOVED the Hudspeth, which is quite something considering that our kids are teens & make it their lifes' ambition to appear unimpressed about ANYTHING. The turn-of-the-century ambiance of the Hudspeth, along with its beautiful antiques, and the owners' passion to retain the old-world charm is lovingly evident throughout their home.

As equal an enticement is the culinary magic weaved by Jill Shelton, proprietor and Kitchen Magician. She went out of her way to create delicious and filling gourmet breakfasts, even when constrained by dietary restrictions (I am a diabetic). She even prepares homemade cookies for "tea-time", held for all guests from 4 to 6 pm... our teens insured that no matter what inducements were being offered by the lovely Palo Duro Canyon, that we had to be back to Hudspeth by tea-time... go figure!

Along with the added natural allure of the canyon itself, Hudspeth House and its warm hospitality is a must-do if you are going to be vacationing--or even doing business--in the Amarillo area. Its proprietors, Jill & Van Shelton, are warm and dedicated people with whom you'll feel right at home!

My sister and I just returned from taking our father to Palo Duro Canyon for his 70th birthday. We happened upon an advertisement for Hudspeth House on the Texas Musical website...and are so glad we did! This B&B is the only place you should stay in Canyon! Jill and Van are gracious hosts and very helpful with restaurant and local activity suggestions. The rooms were very comfortable and the breakfast was delicious! All three of us would highly recommend Hudspeth House and will definitely stay there again if we ever return to that part of Texas.

We really enjoyed the experience of our two night stay in the Lighthouse room! Van and Jill are wonderful hosts with great hospitality, and top notch breakfast offering! Our room was on the third floor, so it was a bit of a climb up and down, but made the experience more memorable.

The location is only about 12 miles from Palo Duro State Park, which was our reason for staying at Canyon, TX. We toured the park and attended the outdoor evening play, "Texas" at the amphitheater.

We liked best the history of the Hudspeth house and the beautiful interior.
Least liked was parking space, which was difficult to maneuver adjacent to the house, but ample parking was available across the street, so not really a big deal.

Overall, we found this a pleasurable stay, will definitely return when next we visit the area, and highly recommend it to anyone seeking a wonderful Bed and Breakfast experience.

Hudspeth House is always a great place to get away. Van and Jill are always so lovely. You are warmly welcomed with cookies and tea. Greated to a spotless inviting room. And served with a magnificant breakfast in the morning. Don't stay anywhere else in Canyon, you will be disappointed if you do.

We reserved a room at the Hudspeth House due to its proximity to Palo Duro Canyon -- only a 15 minute drive. The proprietors were very friendly and helpful. The elegant formal breakfast -- delicious French toast, sausage, and yogurt -- was excellent and the company was great; however, if the menu doesn't suit you, they are happy to comply with requests. One thing to note is that breakfast starts promptly at 8:30 a.m., so if your schedule conflicts, you are out of luck. The room was very clean and spacious with very good accommodations; notably the A/C blew very cool. The only problem was the tub. First, there is no shower or shower curtain. Second, the tub drain did not stop up, so a true bath was not possible. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Hudspeth House and would highly recommend it.
