We're not avid hikers but we do love the outdoors. We found this to be a relaxing place to vacation, and we stayed in one of the Limited Cow Cabins. It was rustic, and a short walk to the restroom/shower, but overall a great time. A lot of Christian people in the surrounding area, which was very refreshing!

Go to Palo Duro Canyon, see the show Texas, eat there and enjoy......you will not be disappointed. By far the best place I have been to in Texas. The scenery, the history and the culture is incredible.

It's a real treat to be able to visit this area and see the canyon. It's just stunning visually. There are good hiking paths that can even accommodate "non-hikers" for relatively short hikes of a mile or two. It's too bad that too many Texans never experience this because the Panhandle is not "on the way" to anything that many travelers think of these days. It's quite a trek from Houston, San Antonio or Austin but it should be on the "bucket list" of traveling Texans both young and old.

I am so glad we chose Palo Duro Canyon as our midway stop on our way to Colorado! It is just beautiful, peaceful and we were lucky the temps were perfect!

This state park is equivalent to national parks in what it offers. The canyon is the second largest in the US, and you can drive into the bottom. We did a hike that went by a cowboy dugout and followed the river. Be prepared for the heat with lots of water and rests as needed. Beautiful views. Don't miss the great hamburgers at the gift shop.
