“can't wait to get back to the black swan.”
Reviewed July 17, 2012

it's going to be our umteenth time back here because we love the food, the staff, the ambience and the surroundings. we normally stay in the rooms but this time we're going to try camping because the kids have never tried it. at least we know we can use the restaurant and pub if it rains. lol. it is also the beer festival in 2 weeks so we'll just catch the end of it, can't wait. x see you all soon. love the taylor family. xxxx

Room Tip: rooms are fantastic but book early because they are snapped up quickly. x

paid £99 for three nights B&B plus £20 supplement for staying on a Friday night, and £10 per night room upgrade. Room was really spacious and clean, wooden flooring, bathroom nice with red hot water and powerful shower. Tea and coffee facilities with plenty of supplies. Nice toilettries provided, huge comfy bed. Could have done with an iron and board. Breakfast was good with plenty to choose from, large size coffee pots, prompt service. We dined on two evenings, portions were huge. Food slightly pricey but all locally sourced and delicious. Good selection of beers on offer. Specials board changed daily so everything very fresh. Really cosy pub, all candle lit and full of querky deco. The landlord was really pleasant and helpful. Toilets need decorating as they really let the place down. The camp site was full by the weekend but we didn't hear any noise from the campers, wouldn't have known they were there. Overall very pleasant stay, would return

Meal very disappointing. Starter was great but the main menu we ordered wild boar with apple and tarragon sauce. What we got definitely wasn't wild boar. Impalla was on the menu in a peppercorn sauce and I think we were given this instead. Mine was raw in the middle and not cooked, very tough and hard to cut through even with a steak knife. When I called waitress over she didn't apologise. Only said 'oh'! I have had boar many times and it is a dark meat very similar to venison. This definitely was not boar. Nevertheless, I wasn't asked if I would like to order anything else on the menu. I then asked for a port and lemondate. What I got was undrinkable because same waitress had put soda in it instead of lemondate. When I asked for it to be changed I again, wasn't even given an apology.
Definitely would never stay there again! Very disappointing!

Thoroughly enjoyed our 2 night stay here. Room very clean and spacious. Bathroom / shower again clean. Ate in the restaurant once and the selection on the menu was very good. Only downside was wifi did not work in our room.

Just back from a 3 night stay. Lovely place nestled in the countryside, great for walking, relaxing or just using as base, as we did for days out. Greeted by Shaun who showed us to our spacious light and airy room, with lovely wooden floors, underfloor heating, a large 6 x 6feet bed and a view for miles. One of the best rooms I have stayed in, We had booked B&B, but as the breakfast was so good we chose to have our evening meal there too. Full english breakfast included lean, thick cut bacon and tasty sausages both obviously supplied by a qualtiy butcher not cheap and nasty supermarket stuff. In the evening we chose the cheaper end of the menu ie. lasagne and chilli, all tasted good, nicely presented and served by friendly efficient staff. All in all we can't fault it. Very enjoyable stay and would return.

Room Tip: There is a room with a jacussi for those wanting a little extra

We got this hotel via an online deal. We just wanted to get into the countryside for a last minute weekend away from home. The price was excellent.
The hotel rooms are in an annexe at the back, near to a caravan and camping site. The room was spotlessly clean and comfortable - it was small - but for the price was perfectly adequate. I understand that there are larger and more well-appointed rooms available. The annexe is right next to the beer garden - which was fine when we visited as it rained incessantly, however I imagine it could get noisy in the Summer. The caravan and camping is right outside your window, as is the car park, if this bothers you - it didn't concern us, particularly considering the low price we paid.
We ate in the pub restaurant - the food was good - nothing outstanding and a little over-priced - but this area of Yorkshire can be pricey.
The pub in general is good - although the ladies' toliets are an absolute disgrace - they were filthy, smelled damp, and the walls and taps covered in black mould - they really need to get these sorted out - I am glad I had already eaten before I saw them! I wouldn't go back here solely for this reason and hence the low score for cleanliness.
I was happy with this hotel for the price - you get what you pay for - had we paid full price I would have been disappointed.
