Owner description: The Taylor County History Center, previously the Buffalo Gap Historic Village, located in Buffalo Gap, Texas, tells the story of the last fifty years of the West Texas frontier. Through interactive exhibits, educational programming, and historic interpretation, guests experience the formative years when the region changed from the Wild West to civilized settlements. The iconic structure of the Village, the original Taylor County Courthouse, represents the presence of justice on the once untamed frontier. The collection includes over fifteen historic structures from the region and over 10,000 artifacts representing the material culture of West Texas.

Interestin experience walking around the village which is well laid. An audio wand is provided giving detailed information on the building. To be honest i mostly just wandered around. Lots of interesting historical exhibits. Well worth a visit.

and my five year old grandson keeps asking when can we go back to the historic village! That was a surprise. The village is small, probably about a block square, but with plenty of interesting exhibits and buildings. Because we were going to the zoo in Abilene afterwards, we didn't spend as much time with the sound wands as we could have. I actually would like to go back and listen to all the information they provide, but that would have to be without the grandkids since they don't stay put long enough to listen to everything!

Allow plenty of time to go through the Village. There is so much to see and hear. During the week, you can use the recorded messages or go when they have the live tour.
