“Yuck - fat!”
Reviewed November 2, 2012

The last time I ate here was with my sister visiting from Denver and my food wasn't as bad as hers but not the best - lots of fat and hers was all fat! Wouldn't go back any time soon.

“Great Barbecue, Dubious Service”
Reviewed June 7, 2012

With the exception of the exclusive catering business of Warren Hohertz, Martin’s Place probably serves some of the best barbecue in Brazos County. This family owned operation has been in business since 1925, and the quality of the barbecue served has never been in question. Unfortunately, for the past several years Martin’s Place has suffered from a flawed business model. Ever since one of its long time waitresses – also a family member – retired, the quality of the service as declined significantly, because she was never replaced. At present, the person preparing the food is also the person serving the order; this can cause long waits in getting one’s order delivered. Martin’s Place needs to hire additional help to speed up the service. If you go to Martin’s for lunch, it’s best to go around 11:00 AM, otherwise you may be in for a long and frustrating wait. If the service were improved, the ranking of this Brazos County institution would easily move from "Very good" to "Excellent."

“Good ole time BBQ”
Reviewed May 11, 2012

Step back in time (and decor) to the slower time & pace of Martn's BBQ.
good food: brisket smoked enough that you don't need sauce, German potatoes, yummy cobbler.

“THIS is the BBQ you remember from your childhood!”
Reviewed February 7, 2012

This restaurant is the very definition of Texas BBQ. The place has been around forever! All the meats are cooked on an old brick pit with hard woods. No convection ovens here with a trickle of smoke to add a little flavor. No fancy uniforms and loud Nashville country music. There is one old t.v. that gets one channel-Fox News. After an hour in this joint, you will wonder how we ever let this way of life get away from us. The food is plentiful and delicious! Slow smoked brisket, pork roasts, sausages, etc. The side dishes are grandma homemade awesome. The beer is cold and the service is simple. You even get to smell like bbq for the rest of the day when you waddle out afterwards! I have been going here my whole life as my dad did and his dad before him did!
