“PLAIN, FRIENDLY and EXCELLENT FOOD”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 30, 2012

Visited with a party of 7 people. Home made atmosphere and food all prepared on site. Meat loaf got very high reviews, as did the chicken fingers, fresh fries (cut on site), macroni and cheese, and the chicken steak. Service very friendly and helpful. Catfish was a disappointment compared to all the other excellent items. About 8 miles from College Station Texas.

“Country Skillet needs to up its game”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 20, 2012

Disappointing breakfast.

Arrived at 0945 before breakfast had finished. A long wait of approximately 20 minutes whilst only one other couple's breakfast was being prepared. Oh well, we thought, at least it will be prepared fresh. Unfortunately the realit indicated the opposite.

My wife's biscuits and gravy were dry and tasted burned, my O/E eggs were verging on O/H. The tray with bussed plates was behind the counter in full view and could have been emptied. No sausage for the breakfast but was given double bacon instead. The bacon was crispy, decent tasting but a little cool and dry. The placed smelled slightly of old cooking oil.

Even allowing for B/CS water the coffee tasted weak and was virtually undrinkable. It was hot and freshly brewed though; we know because we were asked to wait for it to finish brewing.

On the plus side our hostess/waitress was attentive and friendly, the place seemed clean and the tables were simply but well presented.

On the negative side, the food was poor, tasted burned, was dry and not as hot as it maybe ought to have been. The large flat screen TV dominated the dining room and I don't need the Jerry Springer show at 10.00 am.

Sorry, your specials, lunch and dinner may be good but you will need to up your game before I consider coming back. Probably the worst breakfast dining experience I have had in America

“Excellent Food and Service”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 3, 2012

The Country Skillet is a "down home" restaurant that provides good comfort food and friendly service. The place is clean and the wait personnel are attentive and polite. The food was prepared as requested and was temperature appropriate. The lunch specials include a wide selections of meats, served with two sides, a drink, and dessert. If I had a complaint, it was that the place can become loud at times. This was my first time to visit this restaurant; it will not be my last.
