My suggestion would be to call ahead and assure the owner that you are coming. Ask him to cool down your room and tell him if it is not cool when you arrive, that you will not stay there. It was exactly as the previous reviewer stated. Our problems was that it is a LARGE room, stangely decorated, almost like Liberace's Guest house but it was hot! We were there in July. Other problems were that deadbolt did not work, chain lock only had one side and there was no hot water when I wanted to shower at 10PM. It seemed to be fine in the morning. It was a separate buiding and I don't think he turned on the hot water when we arrived. The bed was fairly comfortable and no bed bugs. The carpet actually looked almost new. If you are loooking for a clean place to flop for the night or you are not looking for a nicely appointed room, this is your place. We paid $50 + tax.

Room Tip: We were in building # 2. Don't go to the back because there is a bar back there.

After a long drive from Taos, NM via Roswell, Brownfield was about as far as we wanted to drive for the night. There are few places in the area..overpriced major chains..and a few "hole in the wall" private enterprises that looked "interesting".

We stumbled on Crystal Palace Inn. The office was long closed when we got there, but the proprietor was happy to help get us into a room. What a pleasant surprise we got upon opening the door. The room was large and clean and decorated in a rather interesting way. Don't get me wrong...it wasn't the Hilton, but it was many notches above other inexpensive places I've stayed. In fact, we thought it was nicer than a few of the higher dollar places we stayed on the same trip.

Bottom line... Don't let the kitschy name fool you. It's a very nice inexpensive place to throw down for the night.
