This is a great tour for families with kids and for us seniors as well. It was a fascinating tour..long enough but not too long. The scoop of Blue Bell at the end was worth the trip. Several photo ops are available on the grounds. If you don't have time for the tour, at least stop in and buy a scoop of ice cream and visit the great gift shop.

“Great Tour with Free Ice Cream at the End!!!”
Reviewed June 27, 2008

Took a very interesting factory tour and had a very good time. The tour even includes a sample of their ice cream! How can you beat that?? This would be a great tour for kids, though the tour I was on was a bit crowded, and that was on a Tuesday afternoon. I can't imagine how busy it would be on a weekend! Worth the price of admission for sure, with a big gift shop to boot. No photography allowed however.

“Nice place to visit, good tour experience”
Reviewed April 18, 2008

Took the family to tour Brenham's Blue Bell Ice cream factory today. $3.00 for adults and $0 for kids under 6 AND you get a free scoop??!?! Wow, what a deal. FYI No camera's or phones allowed.

First you step into the lobby/gift shop, and you pay for the tour. They give you wooden "coins" to pay for the tour. Get there early as they fill up quickly. Also, they don't tour on weekends.

At the start of the tour you step into a theater where they show a short, 6 minute, video about Blue Bell. Informative and humorus.

Then they take you through the office area of the creamery, to see where the milk is stored, blended, homogenized, pasteurized (sp), flavored, frozen, and then dispensed into the standard 1 gallon buckets.

After that, they take you to another room where ice cream sandwiches and pint size ice cream is made. Then they take you where they make the 3 gallon buckets of ice cream for commercial restaurants. All the while, the tour guide is explaining what everything is, what flavors they are making, and how everything works.

Finally, at the end of the tour, you show up to a tasting room where everyone gets 1 scoop of ice cream to try. They had about 16 flavors to try so there was a good selection.

After the tour, they sell scoops for $1 in the gift shop. You can't beat that!

“Chocolate Cherry Pecan”
Reviewed October 13, 2003

Bought the new flavor Chocolate Cherry Pecan and was very disappointed in the texture of the ice cream. Blue Bell has always been a creamy ice cream, but this flavor had a very gritty texture. I beleive there might have been a small problem when mixing this ice cream. The flavor was excellent, but the texture needs ALOT of work.

A loyal Blue Bell Customer.
