“Just yummy!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 3, 2013

What a wonderful excursion my husband and I had exploring the Hill Country in Texas and finally eating at the Welfare Cafe. So many have recommended this to us yet we never had the time. The restaurant is in the original Post Office of Welfare, Texas and the owners maintained the property as authentic as possible from the original building. Food, very good, and different from what I have experienced. Definitely a wonderful place for lunch - we actually split our meal as the serving was very large.

“Fun dinning adventure”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 26, 2013

My parents had highly recommended the Welfare Café, so we made it a priority to make this part of our recent weekend visit to San Antonio. It is a rustic, off the beaten path little restaurant close to Boerne. The staff at Welfare Café were not rude, but they weren't warm and inviting. We had a lot of questions about the restaurant and the location. The owner came and sat with us later in the evening and filled us in on the history of the café and the area. We sat outside on the patio and didn't see the special board or even know there were specials for the evening, as the waitress didn't tell us about the specials. The food was good, but certainly not the "gourmet dinning" my parents had told me about. It was an odd dinning experience. We were with good friends and had a great time and have to think that maybe it was an off night for the restaurant. Maybe since it was Sunday night they were out of the specials.

“Egg's Benedict to die for...”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 24, 2013

Admittedly I've sampled one item from the breakfast menu but will propose a question to breakfast lovers, especially Sunday morning breakfast lovers. IF a out of the way café offered you the best Egg's Benedict you've ever had would you be interested And if they laid thick strips of apple wood smoked bacon on the side, would you drive a few miles out of your way to enjoy one of the best breakfast's in your life? I for one refuse to oversell quaint, cozy, out of the way locations simply based on geography, which is a simple way of saying the kitchen must produce. If you like good food, a relaxed atmosphere, offerings truly above the norm this is it.... Although I'm happily married, if I were dating, this would be a definite destination.

“True gourmet dining in the middle of nowhere”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 22, 2013

This incredible restaurant is quite literally in the middle of nowhere. You take an un-numbered road off I-10 and just when you think you're lost, there it is! The menu would satisfy the most discerning city-slicker, and the food is delicious and beautifully presented. There's an adequate wine list and you can even dine outside on a patio under a big oak tree.

“Delightfully surprising.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 15, 2013 via mobile

We went to the Welfare. Cafe on recommendation of our hostess' sister who had gone there with former high school mates for a reunion get together. The service was a bit slow and disorganized but the food and it's presentation more than made up the difference.
