We have gone to this ranch for the last 5 years and just love it! Clay and Diane Conoly, the owners, are gracious hosts. The staff is wonderful and the accommodations are clean and modern, but rustic. Food is prepared family style (and there is a lot of it!) and you get to know others at your table during meals and down times. Entertainment and campfires nightly. Two trail rides a day are a good way to see the surrounding Hill Country. Fast rides are available for an additional fee. Bring a good book or two, games if you like, and snacks and beverages for between meal times. Internet access is available, but cell phone service is limited. It is a great way to get out of the hustle and bustle of city life. Just what you are looking for in a ranch vacation!

Loved this place!!! Was an incredible experience! It is hard to sum it up but I can say it was worth every penny and everyone should go here at some point in their life! My BF and I stayed here for 4 days which was a pretty good amount of time to be able to do and see all the things we wanted to do as well as fit in some relaxation time. It was so quiet and so nice at this ranch, and I felt comfortable in more ways than one.

Accomadations: rustic yet comfortable. Everyone was extremely nice and helpful. You could go and ask anybody anything. We stayed in the "Rebel" duplex which was very spacious and clean. Loved the decorations! The main lodge was gorgeous! Extremely rustic with stuffed animals and saddles everywhere. There was a fireplace which was always going and an overall outstanding ambiance. We barely had cell phone service but the lodge offers free long distance though the whole point was to get away from our phones:-) Also, free wi-fi in the main lodge.

Food: Best homemade food! Served family style in a large dining room with all the guests. A bell rings a half hour before each meal, then again to signal "Come and get it!" Three square meals a day but you have to bring your own "adult" beverages which you can pick up in the town of Bandera which is a short ride from the ranch.

Activities: Tons of fun things to do! A trail ride in the morning and in the afternoon is included. I can honestly say we didn't go on the same trail twice ever in all the rides we did which means we got to see all the different aspects of the ranch and we were able to see all its beauty. We did an "advanced ride" for an extra $30 with a super sweet cowboy named D.C. and that was great! We also did the overnight trail ride (for an extra $155/each) where we take a 2 hour ride and then camp out, which I was nervous about but Melissa promised to get me extra blankets:) Joe the other sweet cowboy (he looks like the Marlboro man!!!) stopped by the campfire and sang some old cowboy songs. Next day we headed back to the ranch after breakfast. The ranch has all sorts of hiking trails and lots of wildlife. I had fun just trying to pet the goats, LOL!

Thanks to the owners Clay and Diane who are so nice and so were each and every other person that works at the ranch. Melissa, Betsy, the kitchen staff, D.C., Joe, Justin and everyone else. Not a single rude person there! Very memorable experience that I thoroughly enjoyed! Hope to go back.

Our first stay in 2008 was a lucky choiche we made on the internet. We had book a stay for 3 days, but that was not enough - we extened our stay for 3 more days. And of cource we had to come back again in 2009 for a week in August.

The way this Ranch is working is absolutely due to Clay and his family, with really good help from a fantastic team of staffs, who always are ready to help you with any problems you may have. You wake up early in the morning, go to the Ranch house for your morning cofee which you can enjoy together with the Ranglers, DC or Melissa. Then the breakfast is served in the dining room, where you have a lot of possibility to meet people from USA but also from around the world. Then Clay or DC will inform you when your morning ride will take place. The Ranch is surrounded by a fantastic nature and you will get a lot of oppertunities to enjoy it on your rides. If you need a faster ride then you just ask for DC - he has his own horses and you can arrange your own rides with him. The evenings are never the same - new entertainment every night. You can also go for the local Rodeo or take a trip to town.

We love the way this Ranch is working. Relaxing and friendly - taking your heart as soon as you arrive. For us it is like coming back to the family - and we are looking forward to spend our vacation in 2010 together with our family at Dixie Dude Ranch.

I now understand the term "dude" ranch. Basic and rustic is part of the charm in this ranch. Roads are rough , fences are uneven and rooms are "rustic" . To plush and the feeling would be lost. A quant charm about the place where things are worn around the edges because in a real wild world they should be.
Meal times are served round a table with an oppertunity to meet new friends , an enviroment extended by campfire chats late into the night below the stars.
We only had 2 nights here , where freinds were formed and lessons learned. Dixie has a long history , yes maybe it can improve , where i dont know . Their cowboys are real, with Jo and Ringo giving guests that orginal cowboy feeling .
The trails are nice with hour long trails through high and low ground creating interesting riding for all. Dont expect a action planned day planned for you , its about old fashioned values where the day is filled by the bonding of the family .
Would i go back......................of course i would without a second thought.

Easy to find, a warm welcome with no fuss! Directed to one of the "rustic" cottages which was a little too rustic, and in much need of TLC. Room amenities were basic which was ok as one is not there to be pampered however a door mat would have been welcome and appreciated! A little disappointing was the television which did not get a signal, I accept that one is not there to watch television! Guys, if it does not work then take it away! I did not try the radio receiver to see if that worked.
Meals were served at very specific times which was also ok, what was not ok in our opinion was the Friday evening meal served on paper plates, please stop that practice!
The fried fish served at that meal was not particularly tasty which exacerbated the paper plate issue. All the other meals were acceptable, indeed our final lunch was the best of all. Thanks for that.
The ranch facilities were good, plenty of open space, the pool etc, and the riding was enjoyable, especially for someone who had not ridden before, I particularly enjoyed riding Hammer who had a bit of life in him! Our impression is that this is a great place for group reunions, large family getaways and for families with kids but not such a great place for middle-aged professional couples. That said it is a good way to escape the stresses of the world for a while. The 3 labradors were awesome!
Overall an enjoyable stay that we are happy to have experienced. We will not be returning because we have too many other places to see but we can understand why lots of people do go back. The ranch staff were all very welcoming, friendly to y'all, helpful, accommodating and the wranglers certainly knew their horses.

I recently spent a family vacaction In Bandera , TX at the Dixie Dude Ranch and it was awesome. Horseback riding , Great food , and the feel of the wild west. If you want to get to know your family, take a trip to the Dixie Dude Ranch where you can spend the day hikeing with the kids or takeing a long horseback ride to show the family how America was built on hard work sacrifice and sweat and get them away from the television video games and theme parks. The Dixie Dude Ranch is not the Ritz, but it has a lot more to offer and the hospitality cannot be beat. When you wake up years from now and your kids are grown and you still have to wipe their butt and pack their bags, you will wish you spent a vacation where the family actually spent time together without the usuall outside distractions. A vacation where you actually eat 3 meals together and a vacation where the whole family can enjoy the activites. It's one where you can slow down and relax. I want to thank Clay and his staff for the hospitality and the chance to spend a few days at the ranch and keeping the American spirt alive.

The Dobson family reunion has been visiting this ranch every four years since 1993! What makes us come back? 1) Clay and his staff - the friendliest people you would ever want to meet. 2) The horse rides - They make sure everyone who wants to ride gets to. Our daughter rode at least 4 times one day! 3) The food - awesome! 4) The pool - a great place to cool down from the Texas heat! 5) The Cowboy Breakfast - worth the entire trip! Beautiful Texas Hill Country views. It's relaxing and peaceful and best of all, no cell phone service! These are just a few of the things that we enjoy while we are at the Dixie Dude Ranch and trust me, there are many, many more! Thanks to Clay and his staff for providing a place to relax, unwind and escape the daily grind!
