“One of our best holiday experiences!”
Reviewed September 23, 2013

As a couple of tentative Brits we booked a three day stay at the Dixie Dude Ranch, not really sure what we had let ourselves in for.
What a fabulous experience. We have never felt so relaxed in years. The staff immediately made us feel so welcome. Even the ranch pets seem to do a 'meet and greet'.
We enjoyed everything the Ranch had to offer, excellent food, real Texan entertainment, fabulous horse rides through amazing countryside.
Our stay was made all the more special due to all the friendly, hard working staff and the great mix of international guests.
We would love to return!

One of the best all-inclusive dude ranches around. The staff is fantastic and they all love what they do which is obvious. The food...oh my! Absolutely scrumptious! The nightly entertainment is pure dude ranch. You enter as a guest and leave a part of the family hoping to return as soon as possible.

We just finished a 4 day stay at the Dixie Dude Ranch, and what a great time. My family has taken three "long weekend" vacations this summer, and all of us agree that this was by far the best.

We enjoyed everything about the ranch, from the trail rides to the food to the accommodations. But the staff and service are really where Dixie Dude Ranch shines. From the reservation process through the stay all the way to check out, everyone was extremely friendly and helpful. The dining room staff is attentive and accommodating. The wranglers were always friendly and patient, and kept us entertained on the trail rides.

I was a little worried about how my kids would adapt to the ranch lifestyle without cable TV and internet, but they had a great time fishing, playing horseshoes, swimming, playing cards and board games in the main lodge, and of course riding horses.

The accommodations are rustic but comfortable and clean. We stayed in the Bayou Bell cabin and had plenty of room and privacy. We enjoyed relaxing on the front porch at the end of the day and enjoying the beautiful scenery.

The food is served family style and is always plentiful. The home-style cooking was varied and delicious and even satisfied our finicky son. The group dining tables give you a chance to meet and chat with the other visitors. While we were there we met families from England, Italy and Canada. The highlight of the stay was the cowboy chuckwagon breakfast. We rode horses out to the hilltop chuckwagon where we feasted on eggs, biscuits and gravy, sausage and fresh fruit surrounded by scenic views of the hills.

If you are looking for a great family vacation, you can't beat the Dixie Dude Ranch. We can't wait to go back.

We just back from the dixie due ranch and our kids didn't want to leave. Everything about the place was great, being in nature all day and the laid back atmosphere was amazing. Our one year old was too small to take riding, though they said we could bring her if we liked, so we took turns taking our 4 yr old and 6 yr old out. They loved it! Stayed in the Buckaroo cabin which I highly recommend fr people with a napping toddler because it is right next to the pool so we could enjoy time there with the older two knowing the baby was asleep right next to us. The food was amazing! Contrary to other reviews they did have a lot of fruits with breakfast and veggies with lunch and dinner. The desserts were also super good. We brought beer and wine and a little cooler bag for our room- there is plenty of free ice available for that!
The hosts and cowboys, waiters, etc were all very polite. We will be returning to the Ranch very soon but next time we will stay longer!

Room Tip: Bring a cooler for your room. Plan to stay for at least 4 nights. Bring running shoes for hiking :)

My fiance and I stayed here in December last year. We were the only ones staying at the time and so had the whole place to ourselves. An incredible experience, all the staff were extremely friendly and the riding was excellent. Would recommend to anyone and everyone looking for a ranch experience - even if you don't ride, I hadn't ridden since I was 8 (a while ago) but had no problem, there is a lot of help on hand if you need it.

The only reason I will not give them a 5 star rating is because the a/c in the room we stayed in was completely inadequate and we roasted at night and the pool could use some improvements. The people are very nice and the animals kept my kids entertained the whole time.
When we arrived we were greeted warmly and told where our room was. We booked it last minute and got it because of a recent cancellation, so it was not a premium room, but it had two beds and a bathroom off the main lodge.
We went on our trail ride almost immediately and it was fun. We all got a chuckle when I had to ride the mule. But, she was so sweet and easy to ride.
After our ride, which was hot, we helped ourselves to the honor pay ice chest for a cool drink and dinner soon followed. I am a vegetarian so I was a little worried about what I would get served, but they were very accommodating and served me a portabello mushroom instead of meat. Tasty. We then went to the pool after dinner. It could have used a bit of sprucing up and more shade with some umbrellas, seeing that it was really hot outside, the water was a bit murky as well. After the pool we sat around the camp fire and visited with the other guests until we couldn't keep our eyes open any longer.
This part is why I didn't give them 5 stars. The room was roasting hot. Our a/c was very inadequate and it made for a fitful, sweaty night's sleep. Fortunately, it didn't make much difference seeing that the next two days were technically a repeat of the first day. Lots of trail rides, sleeping, drinking and eating.
We were there for the 4th of July and they had a small fireworks show for us put on by the owner's son and we set off some of our own and it was fun and just right.
On the last day, my kids were very sad to leave, so I called one of their dogs to come in the room and get into bed with my son. He loved that!
Overall: 5 stars for fun stuff to do, 5 stars for the animals and people, 3 stars for the room with the bad a/c.

Room Tip: Specify the larger cabins, not the rooms on the lodge.

We appreciate all feedback from our guests as it helps us to see all points of view. Any time there is a concern from a guest, we want to attend to those needs immediately and therefore want to know about it before they check out, especially since most problems have a quick remedy. This helps us stay on top of our ongoing maintenance, and most importantly, it helps our guests have a more comfortable stay.

We understand that Texas summers are very hot, so the idea of extra shade at the pool is a great suggestion. We maintain our pool and its chemicals daily, but unfortunately in our current severe drought situation here, dust is a huge culprit in making our outdoor pool look murky and cloudy. We just had the entire deck area resurfaced in late winter in addition to installing a new hot tub in December, and we take all measures to keep our pool in the best condition possible.

Thanks again for the feedback. We are always open to suggestions and here to help our guests.

My boyfriend and I travelled all the way from Liverpool, England to do a Texas road trip. We decided to spend three nights at Dixie Dude.
It was amazing! We had a great time riding the horses (Little Boy, and Sox were our fav..)
The cowboys, David, Chris and Arnie were brilliant and such a good laugh.
The cabin was lovely, rustic but clean and homely.
The girls from the kitchen were lovely and made great homemade lemonade, the food was all freshly homemade and there was plenty of it.
The family who own it were great, especially Kimmy. Who was so sweet and really helpfull.
We also really enjoyed listening to the singing cowboy at sunset on the first night.
We both loved the ranch and the family atmosphere, we had a great time in the cities of Texas after leaving the ranch, but we felt 'homesick' for a few days after leaving!!
Great value for money.
Once in a lifetime experience, wouldn't dream of going to Texas again without going back to Dixie Dude!!!!!
