I had not experienced the state of Texas before and deliberately choose the Sugar and Spice Ranch in order to spend spring break with my two boys, age 11 and 13, in “Cowboy-country”, yet provided with ample, habitual daily comforts. We left with an amazing bonding experience, fond memories and are excited about being Wyoming-bound.
Mrs Leigh’s horse tack lessons are life lessons taught amidst a caring family on a beautiful ranch setting, supporting discussions and solutions, with “staying on horse back” always in mind. Although I would describe me as one of these “hovering moms”, I felt comfortable to lean back, relax and keenly observe the respective approach and progress of my two entirely different characters after Mrs Leigh presented long reins with a vision at the beginning of the stay. Despite some sweat we never will forget the fun, success and thankfulness we owe to such a unique place where horses help humans find their wild inner nature.
Some of the ranch’s recent reviews prompt me to add although men have successfully tamed horses for millenniums, bridling our imperfect nature is another matter. “We all stumble many times,” observed the Christian disciple James. “If anyone does not stumble in word, this one is a perfect man, able to bridle also his whole body.” (James 3:2) Indeed, who of us can claim that he has never uttered a thoughtless, cutting, or angry word?
