My wife and I were visiting Townsend and wanted to look around in a few of the local shops. As we drove up and down the strip, we noticed this particular cluster of stores and decided to stop by. It was a very cute store and it had unique gifts, local fair, and even ground coffee. In this cluster was also another nice store and a cafe. We didn't get to stay long, or eat, but we did manage a gift to ourselves for our front porch!

You'll have to come back when you have more time to sit and visit.

The 2018 Hog Rally in the Smokies Poker Run included a stop at this interesting store. If you like General stores that have a variety of everything this is the place to stop. There are everything from signs to wines. Additionally is in the complex with a few other stores and restaurants to make it a nice afternoon to relax and do nothing if you would like accept wander through the stores and have something to eat. We only visited the General Store at the time but there are other shops that equally interesting. The people are very nice and we spent quite a bit of time just looking around for things that we could buy. The store environment made you want to find something to buy. I think if you're traveling through the area make it a point to stop here and check out this little Plaza. There was also a Winery right next door but I will rate that separately. I really wish I could say more about the store but you got to see it and you got to experience it that's the best thing I can tell you. I guarantee you that you will walk out with something in a bag.

During our March stay at Blackberry Farm, we had the opportunity to stop into the Apple Valley Country Store, right on Hwy 321 (Lamar Alexander Pkwy) in tiny Townsend, TN.

This was likely our 10th visit, though we missed getting into Townsend on our last two stays at Blackberry Farm.

Now, the Apple Valley Country Store is more than just a store, though it is complete in most respects. It’s a bit of a café, a general store, but also both a slice of Americana, and a little bit of a museum. I wonder how many folk miss all of the aspects, just stopping in for the fudge, or maybe a quick bite, or some provisions for their cabin?

We spent quite a bit of time looking at everything, as we always do, and could have spent even more, as they seem to have expanded, since our last visit. Though there IS a “visitors center” in Townsend, Apple Valley also serves that function too, with good local advice.

We love just talking with the folk at the store, and recognized two, with whom we had interacted in the past.

Though Blackberry Farm has its own line of jams, we walked out with two jars, to pack them into our luggage, as we headed to TYS Airport.

Always a nice stop, and this was no exception.

Thanks for visiting us while you were in the area. If you like Blackberry Farm, you should dine with us at the Appalachian Bistro at the top of the hill inside Dancing Bear Lodge. They even serve Blackberry Farm beers.

This is a fun place to find lots of goodies from gifts to jam. Be sure to check it out when you are in the area. Café looks good too.
