Don't visit the Smoky Mountains without a trip to the Foothills Parkway ! from Pigeon Forge take Rt.321 through Wears Valley to Townsend .. once to Townsend at the traffic light turn right on Hwy. 73 keep heading out of Townsend and you'll see signs for Foothills parkway.
There are several pull offs with amazing views !! Make sure you check it out !

“On the way to the Dragon”
Reviewed June 5, 2013

Enjoyed the scenery and the motorcycle experience on the way to ride the Tail of the Dragon. There is one intersection that was not clearly marked as to which direction to take. Some of our group made a wrong turn here.

“Beautiful ride!”
Reviewed June 5, 2013

We opted for a different route into the Pigeon Forge area this trip. If you want a scenic route that offers spectacular views, this route is for you. If you are looking for a quick drive, then find another route as you will need to slow down on this windy road. So worth a few extra minutes. Stop at the overlooks and get some pictures.

Check out youtube for some videos to get a taste of the scenery.

“Spring ride through mountain vistas”
Reviewed May 31, 2013

We rented a Harley-Davidson and rode the back roads of east Tennessee a late May weekend. There is no place I'd rather be in the spring than this area. The weather is amazing with crisp, clear skies and fragrant air that is utterly intoxicating ~ so many different things in bloom that the perfume changes as you ride along. This could exacerbate allergies but even so, it is an experience of a lifetime. Temperatures are perfect too, hovering around 69 F. Take rain gear for quick spring showers.

Views will be the Great Smoky Mtns on one side, Blount County on the other, as you ride across a ridge top. Toward the southeast end of the ride, pull over to view lakes in the distance on the Smokies' side. Great picture opps there!

The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because of the time of year ... this ride is EXCEPTIONAL in the FALL when the Foothills Pkwy vistas will be at their PEAK.
Anytime we can be riding is great ... springtime in the Smokies is fabulous ... but if you only have a limited time to visit, do this one in the fall.

PS. BEWARE: If you start the drive from 321 out of Maryville, head southwest on the Foothills Pkwy, you will see NO commercial enterprise, no bathrooms, nothing. So be prepared. Ride until the Pkwy ends on 129, take a right and soon you'll come to the Smoky Mtn Harley-Davidson store (with a bathroom). The day we rode,BJ's hotdog stand was open there and it was AWESOME. If that's not open, stay on 129 and you'll come to the Pumpkin Center which has a country store and restaurant.

PSS. This is my home town!

“Beautiful ride”

Beautiful ride on the mountain ridge, with fantastic views of the valleys and mountains on either side. Stop at Look Rock for the best view.
