Beautiful drive, a quick way to the Dragon. Watch for cyclists and motorcycles, we need to share the beauty with all.

Leave the crowds at Clingman's Dome behind and travel along the Foothills Parkway to Look Rock. My son and I wen there early in the morning to watch the sunrise over the Smoky Mountains. We were renting a house in Townsend, TN so it was easy to access the parkway.

The drive up was much better than the roads which use steep inclines. The pull-offs gave beautiful views.

if you are in the smoky mountains take time to go to the foothill parkway. just a little ways from townsend, this drive is unbelievable, you drive along a ridge flat lands to the west smokies to the east. half way you come to a place called look rock easy hike to a mini clingmans dome. and if you have time go on ahead you will come to the beginning of the tail of the dragon but that's a whole another review

If you like scenery at high elevation, this route should be on your itinerary. We came during Spring Break and a lot of the sites were closed due to ice, landslide, and budget limitation. but we were glad this path remained open. There were plenty of pullover stops to take photos or to simply absorb nature's beauty.

Once you get into Look Rock tower's parking area, there is viewing area just a few steps away. From there, you can then take the trail across the street to the Look Rock tower itself. The tower itself is a beauty to look at.
