This bridge has been here as long as I can remember, there was a flood that nearly destroyed. It is fun for kids and you can teach them about the physics of how the bridge works.

My husband and I went in search of the two swinging bridges in Townsend. This one is just off E. Lamar Parkway. To get there you turn off of E. Lamar Parkway, making a right onto Cameron Rd (crossing over a one lane bridge). Once over the one lane bridge, you make a left onto Old Walland Highway. Here you will see a small sign for the swinging bridge. It will be off to your left & there is enough parking for just a few cars, being in a somewhat residential area.

The bridge itself is just a small swinging bridge. It was nothing fancy. This bridge did have more bounce & swing to it than the other swinging bridge (at the intersection of Depot Rd & Old State Hwy 73). Once out on this bridge, you get a decent view of the river down below. If you walk the length of the bridge, you will come out on the other side ON the HIGHWAY. So, you may want to keep an eye on small children, who might run across the bridge & out onto the edge of the highway.

Overall, this bridge is just OK. If you really like bouncy swinging bridges, this one has some swing & bounce to it. However, I prefer the other bridge in Townsend. It is easier to park at (behind the Railroad Museum) & seems more sturdy.
