“A must see”
Reviewed May 30, 2014

This is a great place to learn about the history of the Townsend Tennessee area! They have an old Shay train engine and much antique railroad and logging equipment and photos on display. The hostess was full of interesting information and admission is free!

“We loved this place, even though we visited after hours.”
Reviewed January 15, 2014

We were staying down the road at a hotel, and passed this place every day with our two young boys, ages 5 and 3. They love trains, so we stopped here every day to look at the trains and such that are on display on the grounds outside. We weren't ever here during normal business hours so we could not go inside, but it looked neat when we peaked through the windows. The information signage outside was great, and this was a fun place for our boys to run around and be boys for a little while. The boys asked to stop here daily, so we did.

“A railroaders must!”
Reviewed December 15, 2013

This tiny museum and gift shop tells the history of the logging railroad that established the town of Townsend. Don't be put off by its diminutive size it tells a big story and the docent I had was very well informed and interesting. There are also some very interesting static displays including an original Shay locomotive.
