“Beautiful and Romatic”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 6, 2010

We had a beautiful room here. We were traveling with 21 others and half of us stayed here. Everyone that stayed here was pleased with the accommodations. The room we stayed in had a wonderful view of the mountains. There was a gas fireplace in the bedroom. There was also a Microwave and refrigerator in the room.
We had some minor issues such as,the door lock was difficult to use and we reported that to management. I ddn't find a hair dryer in the room, however I didn't check with the front desk to see if one was available.

We've stayed at several other locations in Townsend and the greater Pigeon Forge area and have found that this is our favorite place to stay for many reasons, but especially for the value. The only reason we didn't rate it excellent is because it is an older motel and the rooms don't have the newest equipment, but everything is clean and well maintained. The staff is great. The pool is sparkling clean like just about everything else.

We stayed 4 nights in the building furthest back from the street and had a nice quiet porch to sit on - small problem was that the air conditioner vents onto the porch so it made it kind of warm and loud sitting out there at times. However, seeing the sunrise & wildlife more than made up for it.

Townsend is a quiet town and we've always enjoyed staying there. There's a good restaurant next door, tubing is right across the street, hiking in the National Park is just a few miles away, Tuckaleechee Caverns is close by - and everything else is about a 30 minute drive either to Pigeon Forge, or through the park to Gatlinburg.

This hotel is older and family owned. The owners were very pleasant and gave us a great deal. It was really clean, and had lovely, colored, soft sheets, and comfortable beds. The room was also very spacious. We only stayed one night, but would return. The grounds are pretty, and would be great in the fall with the mountain view.

My partner and I like to stay at the Talley Ho Inn because it is quiet and remote. Most of the guests are of the same mindset as well.

The motel is old but in well maintained condition. The decor is simple and very dated, but we don't mind that. The only complaint we have, after being a regular guests for many years, is the carpet really needs to be replaced, it is worn and dirty. I have brought this issue up to the front desk on each and every visit.

Otherwise, the rooms are clean and the bath rooms are old but spotless. On our latest visit, we were pleased that our room had a comfortable new mattress and sofa. Also the towels have been replaced with better quality ones.

The deluxe rooms are spacious and have a refrigerator and microwave. They are a great value for the price. Also, the deluxe rooms with Jacuzzi and fireplaces are reasonably priced if you desire those amenities.

The best feature is the mountain setting and most rooms have covered porches with nice views. At night there is no traffic noise, and rarely are there any young people who are parting all night. There is a very good restaurant right beside the motel that is moderately priced as well. It is closed in winter though.

We like the Talley Ho well enough to continue returning for over 12 years now. Just keep your shoes on or bring plenty of clean socks.

We arrived in Townsend with no reservations and although we stay in Gatlinburg all the time we have never stayed in Townsend. The front desk clerk was very helpful. We wanted a private room with a jacuzzi. We were pleased when we opened the door to a King bed, in room jacuzzi, and private balcony for $100 night. Our view was nice too. Plus there is an awesome restaurant next door. Take the scenic ride into and from Gatlinburg you will find it absolutely gorgeous.

We took a spur of the moment trip right after Christmas. We typically rent a cabin, but found due to the holidays most one bedrooms in the areas we like to stay were already booked. I called ahead to a few of the hotels in the Townsend area and most had no vacancies as well. I went on line and found a website for the Talley Ho Inn. I called and the clerk was extremely pleasant and when I mentioned I found their hotel on the website, he immediately gave me a discounted room rate. I booked a king suite. We had a very nice private balcony that had wonderful views of the mountains to the front. The furnishing were old and the decor somewhat outdated, but the room itself was immaculate. The carpet was clean, the bathrooms were spotless. I don't know how many hotel rooms we have stayed in and you can see marks on the ceilings where there have been leaks and the grout lines look black, etc. This was not the case. The tub was scrubbed, the tile was clean and it smelled fresh. The bed linens were not the newest, but they smelled fresh and clean. We had a coffeemaker, small frig and microwave. They all worked. We had a door out on to the balcony with two chairs and a table and a second door that came in from the rear of the room. There was a small seating area as you came in next to the wardrobe where you could put luggage or sit and put on shoes. The TV was rather small, but adequate. We weren't there to watch TV but to enjoy the mountains. Nice size table and chairs in the room and a love seat that made out to a single bed. The mattress was comfortable. The heat worked fine (it was cold, cold, cold outside). The ice machine was away from the building so that was a bit inconvenient. The restaurant on site was closed for the winter season, but the clerk suggested a nice little place across the road for breakfast. It was wonderul. All in all it was a nice room for the price. Everyday when we left and returned the room had been cleaned. There were fresh towels, the garbage emptied, etc. It was quiet. Again, it wasn't an ultra modern hotel, but it was worth the money, comfortable and the service was all that you could ask for. It was very clean. The bed was comfortable and a nice view. We would definitely stay again.

Unlike Gatlinburg on the busy side of the Smoky Mounains, Townsend has limited lodging choices. The options are mostly smaller, family-owned motels. This particular inn would not be described as new or modern, but we weren't expecting much so we weren't disappointed.
The property sits off of the road and is well maintained. The man at the desk was very friendly and helpful. The room iteself uses actual keys (no modern keycards here), and the furniture is a bit dated. The whole room has the look and feel of an average hotel room about 25 years ago. The beds have the old fahioned floral bedspreads, and the towels were the very thin sort that you can see through. It was well lit though and seemed clean. Our room had a small fridge and a patio outside. If you want something modern and fancy in Townsend then you can look at staying somewhere like the Dancing Bear Lodge but expect to pay significantly more. If you just need a place to sleep before heading into the national park and don't mind a bit of hotel nostalgia then this hotel is adequate.

  • Liked — located near Smoky Mountains National Park and Cades Cove
  • Disliked — We killed about 6 bugs in just a few hours (no roaches but just random insects that had gotten in)
