I was in Smyrna visiting my son on a Monday night, We looked online because we were craving Italian. He wanted to go to the strip but I wanted something more home style and not a chain. We decided on La Tavola, it is just off the historic downtown strip, well worth the look. We arrived and were met by a young lady who seated us. We ordered drinks and calamara with fried zucini appetizer, it was cook perfect, not chewy & very tasty, Next we ordered the Chicken Ripenieno. This possibly the best meal I have ever had, I let my wife & son sample and they were sopping up the sauce liked starved puppies. It was delightful, My wife had the veal and eggplant dish, she absolutly love it. Our son had the seafood meal with mussels, clams, shrimp and it was incredible. The Chef came by the table and talked with us for a while, he was great, studied in Naples Italy and it is apparent he loves his job, We will definatly go back and highly recommend. Great Job, Daryle the Server was very helpful in recommending the dishes. Nice, quant atmospher. Highly Recommended.

I was in Smyrna with a group on business, and I recommended we try La Tavola based on the reviews I had read. No one at the business we were visiting had heard of it, and the surroundings at night were not particularly impressive. We went early on a Tues, and it wasn't terribly busy there, so I was hoping I had not led my entire group astray. Not to worry, the food was fabulous and everyone raved about the evening! The staff were very friendly and helpful. We started with calamari which was tender and crispy, and I liked the fried zucchini strips that were mixed in with it as much as the calamari. About half of us tried one of the specials, which was mahimahi lightly pan seared, with a wonderful cream sauce and crabmeat risotto as a side. My only complaint would be that there wasn't much evidence of crab in the risotto, but it was delicious regardless. The Chicken Ripieno got rave reviews from one of my dining companions. And we shared cannoli and tiramisu which were both excellent - good crisp cannoli shell filled with a dense, sweet cheese filling. We all thoroughly enjoyed our meal and decided we'll go back when we return to Smyrna for our next training trip.

We had 9 of us go in for diner. I drove by it twice. It's just a little place from the outside. I thought Well this ain't going to be much. boy. Wa s I wrong. The food was excellent. The survice and staff were incredible. I had the Chicken Ripieno. Chicken stuffed with prosciutto, mozzarella, and a cognac mushroom cream sauce. Better than any chicken I've ever had in Carrabas or anywhere. We re in Nashville 4 more days and will definitely go at least one more time if not twice. Try the tiramisu. It literally melts in your mouth.

The chef is from Naples, Italy, and clearly loves his work and knows his stuff. Just casual delicious food; no ostentation, fancy trappings, or pretense. Good food at a reasonable price; nice family dining. We're just plain folks here in Smyrna, but we know good food when we taste it! I haven't been to Italy, but I did grow up around Philadelphia, so I know Italian! My mother learned some recipes from Mario Lanza's mother (famous tenor, actor;1940s-50s).

Just go down Smyrna's main drag into the center of the old town, then turn at the traffic light at the train station. It's back in that little stretch - 114 Front St. Look for the red and white umbrellas outside.
