“Honeymoon getaway”
Reviewed June 28, 2013

We spent two days in Buttercup as part of our honeymoon. It was so serene and quiet. The cabin was very well kept and had everything you needed with the exception of food and toiletries. It even had a toaster and blender. We stopped at the grocery on our way into town to get breakfast food and some snacks. While, we were there a storm rolled through and knocked power out. I called Susan to let her know and she was right on it so the tree that fell on the line could be cut and power restored. Great place. Great value. Will stay again.

We've been to the Smokies several times, always stayed in motels. Never again! This was our first vacation alone together in over 5 years. We wanted the quiet peacefulness and privacy of being among nature. Our Sunflower cabin was perfect! All we needed to bring was food, clothing and personal items, everything else was provided. Decorated in simple but elegant country decor which matched our tastes like we'd decorated ourselves. The bed was extremely comfortable with lots of pillows. The cabin was probably the cleanest lodging establishment we've ever stayed in. We truly enjoyed the jacuzzi tub inside and the hottub outside. The Sunflower cabin is so secluded you don't even have to get dressed! One trip to town for groceries and 2 days in heaven. We didn't want to leave! The owner was so sweet and accomodating and the price is totally affordable. Leaving felt like leaving home! We will definately recommend High Valley Rentals to everyone we know.

Room Tip: Some of the other cabins didn't look as secluded as the Sunflower.

We stayed with High Valley Rental in the Peach Blossom Cabin. This cabin was a 2-bedroom with an additional loft with 2 twin beds in it. This cabin had everything that we needed. It was very much like home. The cabin was 10-miles from downtown Sevierville/Piegon Forge which was nice. If you are looking for piece and quiet, this is the place! The cabin was extremely clean and affordable. The owners were very welcoming but gave us our space. The hot tub was nice after a long day in the mountains. We can't wait to return for another comfortable stay.

We LOVE High Valley Rentals. We visit the Pigeon Forge area at least once a year, and we always stay with High Valley Rentals. They are a little out of town, and it just the right distance to be convienent to all the attractions, yet away from the traffice so you can actually enjoy the beauty of the mountains with the peace and tranquility that is supposed to go with it.

The cabins are always clean, and well equipped with all you will need for your trip. Also the inside of each cabin is decorated with the most adorable local decorations, just like a little country cabin should be. Without a doubt one of the highlights of our trip is always staying with High Valley ! We have even gotten to the point where we schedule a day or two of our trip just to stay "home" at the cabin and enjoy it.

We spent a week at High Valley, in one of the "Honeymoon Cabins". The cabin is was one-room, equipped cabin with a small kitchen area, fireplace, bed, and a superfluous heart-shaped bathtub. The only place to sit was at the kitchen table or in one of the tree-branch rockers. They were comfortable for a few minutes, but not comfortable to spend a night in (which we had to do because of rain). The room that was taken-up by the heart-shaped tub (which is ridiculous) could have been better used for a comfortable sofa and a dresser. There was no storage whatsoever. We had to live out of our suitcase - which is okay for a short stay. If you're planning on a longer stay, rent one of the larger cabins. No dresser, not even a night stand.
The cabin was stuffy and smelled stale. The linens also had the stale smell. It was fairly clean and they expect you to clean up after yourself before you leave. The dishes and pots and pans were not cleaned well by the previous guest and I guess the owners didn't check. We spent 1/2 hour cleaning dishes, the dish rack (which was disgusting) and the drawers to put them in (those were kind of nasty too).
Once that was done, we had a nice stay.
We would cook our own meals, so we saved money, but we spent a lot in gas getting to and from attractions.
One important thing... If you stay here, know that it is a long way from everything. We picked this place to be out of the madness of Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge, but it was way out! You can get to the outskirts of Pigeon Forge in about 30-35 minutes, but to get "deeper in" plan another 15-20 minutes. Gatlinburg is about 50 minutes away; and the Sugarland Visitor Center in the Smoky Mountains took an hour and and 15 minutes! We came to hike. The nearest trail-head for the Smoky Mountains was Greenbrier, which took a little over an hour.
This cabin was very inexpensive, and was better than a regular hotel room, but it's so far away from everything (and I mean everything), I wouldn't stay there again.
The owners (The Feeneys) are very nice!

This was our second experience with High Valley Rentals since 2009. Again spring break 2013 we were more than satisfied with our stay. Our cabin offered scenic natural beauty combined with clean modern conveniences. All features are ready for use, including firewood stacked on the porch. Hospitality is topnotch!

We were trying to get a reasonably-priced accommodation on short notice in the Smoky Mtn. Park area, without being in the middle of the craziness of Gatlinburg. Little luck. For others trying to do this, please know that accommodation schedule calendars mean absolutely nothing, at least on VRBO. When I asked why they were left totally open, owners replied with everything from: 1) don't have time; 2) too complicated; 3) don't want to tip off burglars; 4) we're always full. Obviously it an owners' market in that area. Anyway, at the last minute (we were seeking cabin for at least two, for the middle of the week, in March) I discovered this jewel of a deal. We stayed in Zinnia cottage, for $75/night, for three nights. Perfect location (for us). Some distance from the always-congested "Strip," and near enough to go there if we wanted, or take the Pigeon Forge Bypass (SR321) to visit the park. Zinnia was tastefully decorated, like-new clean, and had a jacuzzi tub and outdoor hot tub. It's the smallest cabin, at 640 sq/ft, but my girlfriend and I just further appreciated the intimacy of the place. The cabins are not far apart, yet situated to allow privacy. Great place for a family get-together. Spotty cellphone coverage (texting was OK) and no high speed data service, but isn't that part of what one goes to get away from? In return for no cleaning fee for cabin or tubs, Susan just requests that you tidy it up before leaving. Being a nearby resident, she is almost always available. Don't overlook what nearby Sevierville has to offer. We discovered a lovely bistro near downtown (Bistro 109; look it up on UrbanSpoon.com) that has it all: candlelight atmosphere, dinner-date music (including live piano on weekends, call first), sidewalk cafe tables, fully-stocked bar, incredibly diverse menu, discounted smaller portions optional, and carry-out service. And the prices are quite reasonable. Another great place is Thai Palace, in southern Sevierville along the Parkway just south of Tanger Mall (same side of highway). Although inauspiciously located between a beef jerky outlet and Cici's Pizza, it is absolutely spotless (including the bathrooms) while sporting the reserved atmosphere of a fine dining establishment, without the prices. The appetizer spring rolls were exquisite and our entrees of Masaman Curry and Pad Thai were at least as good as in the best of many other Thai restaurants we have enjoyed. The service was fast, efficient, and friendly. They are family friendly, including a child's menu. If you have the pleasure of being served by Panicha (pan-niche-ah), a soft-spoken young Thai woman working in America to support her parents back in Thailand, consider a very generous tip if pleased with her service. I'd be remiss if I didn't also put a word in for the New Orleans Sandwich Company on the west side of the 600 block of the Parkway in Gatlinburg. A very reasonably priced slice of New Orleans that you will just love (view their menu and read their great reviews on UrbanSpoon.com). Hidden in lower level of small plaza behind Claire's boutique.

Room Tip: Can't go wrong here!
