I and my family (a total of 10 people) just finished a week-long stay in Alexandra’s Log Heaven cabin. Our overall impression is that the cabin (and the resort as a whole) has a lot of unfulfilled potential, and ultimately we feel that we did not get our money’s worth for the cabin. Anyone considering staying there should read this review before making reservations.

Overall, the cabin could use a thorough deep-cleaning. We found it quite dusty with many cobwebs in the corners and on the ceiling. Some of the paneling in the kitchen and over one stairway was falling apart or missing. The carpet downstairs was heavily stained. There is mold in the downstairs bathroom and several areas throughout the cabin that need to be repainted.

The bedrooms on the main floor and upstairs are adequate. We were disappointed to find that some of the closets were filled with extra/broken furniture, a paint can, and other miscellaneous items that should’ve been taken away. The upstairs bedroom had a broken end table, a dresser with a broken drawer, and another end table with a broken handle on the drawer. The kitchen and living room are nice, but the living room is so overstuffed with furniture that it’s difficult to walk through. The kitchen table seats 10 comfortably, but is so large that it’s difficult to maneuver through the room. The basement bedrooms are barely large enough for the beds and have no windows; this didn’t matter to us as we didn’t need to use them, but should be noted for those who have a party of 12 or more.

The downstairs theater is quite nice, with nine theater seats and around 300 DVD/Blu-Ray titles (some of them repeat titles), a clear picture and excellent sound. We had to call for help twice when the projector quit working. We were hoping to hook the kids’ Wii system to the theater screen, but there is a sign on the door and wall forbidding doing so, which disappointed the kids. There are three arcade games in the laundry area, but only one of them worked, and all of them required quarters to play (it would’ve been a classier move for the owners to allow the machines to play for free, considering customers are already paying to stay there).

The website for this cabin needs to be updated, as some of the information is incorrect and/or misleading. The website states that there are three beds (full, futon and bunk) in the loft bedroom. There is no bunk bed, so we had to change the sleeping arrangements for the kids. The website says that there are two pools, but customers should note that one of them is a small kiddie pool (which was empty on one of the days we were there, and the waterfall was inexplicably turned off on another day). The website also says that there is a playground, but there was no playground at all, much to our disappointment (we have a 3-year-old who would’ve loved it). The website fails to mention that while the main floor bathroom has a Jacuzzi tub, it does not have a shower. Those staying in the main floor bedrooms have to go to the basement or loft to shower.

The cabin has very little yard to speak of, and what there is really needs some weeding and general care (as well as some cleaning; I found a water bottle full of cigarette butts on the ground when we arrived, and cigarette butts on the porch as well). Some heavy weeding is also needed around the pool area.

A few positive notes: the cabin is located very close to a lot of fun activities for the whole family. The cabin had ample hot water and the showers have great water pressure. The washer, dryer, hot tub, and Jacuzzi work well. There are more than enough working television sets (8 total, not counting the theater screen). There is ample seating on the porch and a friendly cat that visited with us all week.

Overall, I’d say that with some thorough cleaning, painting and redecorating in and around the cabin, it could go from mediocre to quite nice. As it is, however, it is not worth the price.

As the owner of this cabin and being that this cabin has never had a negative review, I felt I needed to respond. First of all, if we had been notified of any cleanliness issues, we would have handled it immediately. No one has ever complained of having 'Too much' leather furniture. As far as the theater goes, there may be some duplicate titles out of hundreds of movies. I don't understand how that could be a problem. Out of all the cabins in our area that have theaters, I know of no one that allows kids to 'hook up' games to these very complex systems. The next renter wouldn't appreciate us having to call the technician in to re-wire the system which has happened each time kids start re-routing wiring. The web site states the cabin has 2 pools, one of which is a 'kiddie' pool. I cannot imagine this renter expecting 2 full size pools when one of them is a $10,000.00 12 by 10 gunite pool with water fall for the younger kids.
No true Jacuzzi tubs have showers in any cabin.
If the renter had asked, I would have shown them the playground. You just have to walk down a trail.
Due to the price and ammenities of this cabin, it has NEVER had a vacate day during all of the prime weeks for the past 8 years, and has never had a negative review.

Our family had a great vacation stay with Backhome Log Cabins in Sevierville, TN, at Mountain Ayre. The views around this cabin are fabulous! Not only did we enjoy sitting and relaxing on the back porch, we could also continue enjoying the beautiful mountain views while swimming in the pool!! There was plenty of room for our family of 8 adults and 4 children.

We had to call the manager, Stan, on our first day because a toilet tank wasn't filling up and was continuing to run. I would say he was there within 5-10 minutes of our call, and a plumber was there within the hour. Nice! Very accommodating!

Thank you to Stan and to Backhome Log Cabins for a great vacation!

It was average...Just average I cant help to think there are other cabins that are worth the very good rating. Would I rent the cabin or another cabin from them? Probably not. If I am in the area again I will go somewhere else.

Room Tip: Look beyond this Cabin Rental.

We're sorry you feel these 2 adjoining cabins are only 'average'. The vast majority of people love these cabins and especially for having 2 heated pools right at their doorsteps. Four days after your departure we had a tour group of 37 people stay in these cabins and sent this response from the tour operator, "just letting you know the group had a ball and enjoyed every minute. Thanks for the great job working with us. You can bet you are at the top of our list for more".

We came up from Georgia for a Christian gathering in Gatlinburg. We had 14 kids and 12 adults and we're not the quietest group because we're celebrating life! GREAT place for the kids as there's a pool table, pacman machine and fooseball, plus a big backyard for the guys to play ball. With the kids downstairs and the adults upstairs, it was enjoyable because the place is very large. The maintenance man was just finishing refilling the hot tub for us, but that wasn't a big deal. He was polite and apologetic for being there. This house is beautiful, well laid out, nice new furniture, and very clean. I imagine the management is very particular about their reputation as the cleanliness of their cabin really stands out. Stan and Debra are wonderful to work with. God Bless and we will definitely return next year for the Gaither's Homecoming.

Room Tip: The house is so well insulated,we didn't hear the kids in the basement while we were upstairs.

I just spent several days at this cabin, for a family reunion. It was exactly what we needed, providing plenty of bed space, running room for all the kids, ample seating, cleanliness, supplied very well, and when we needed anything, the staff were more than helpful, and accomadating. The cabin was easy to find, parking was very good (for 7 cars). We had ample food preparation space in the kitchen, which was supplied nicely. We cooked a full course Thanksgiving meal for dinner, and pancake breakfast the next morning, with no issues. There was ample hot water, bedding, play areas, too many TV's tho, garbage pickup, and plenty of peace and quiet to be shared, after the kids bedtime (put the kids downstairs, & they LOVED the bunkbeds). This cabin served our needs nicely. I am including pictures taken upon our arrival too. It isn't a luxury cabin, and if that's what you're looking for...look elsewhere. This cabin is nice, and is NOT a dump. We all enjoyed our time there, and prayerfully, we'll be able to enjoy it again next year, too.

Room Tip: IF noise is an issue for you at bedtime, bring along a window fan to use...works great. Put all the kids to bed downstairs, they love the bunkbeds, and they'll be there in the game room areas anyway, when they aren't outdoors. Enjoy!

Thank you for your positive review. The vast majority of people love this cabin, 'Heavenly Sunrise', for the private pool, large rooms, and the 'Value' of this unit. We have many repeat guests for this rental.
