“Spring break in the Smokies!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 11, 2013

This resort is GREAT! The facilities are nice, the staff is nice, we were multiple multi-generational families in two rooms and all of our accommodations were GREAT! I would like to comment on how crowded the waterpark was. Our trip was during spring break and the weather wasn't nice enough for the outdoor park to be open, HOWEVER this facility IS open to the public. Therefore it was PACKED from 9am to 10pm there was NEVER a time it was relaxing to hang out. I think there should be a time during the day when Wyndham owners are allowed time or maybe it shouldn't be for public use. It's a large facility and I have to assume people staying there plan on using the facilities why do you need to add to that number. If you do plan on visiting you HAVE to get there first thing in the morning and CLAIM your spot otherwise you are out of LUCK! The resort is supposed to have free wi-fi but it was HORRIBLE. It took ten minutes to check 2 emails. In 2013 when wi-fi is everywhere I expect this kind of place to have better service than that!

We stayed at the Great Smokies Lodge for 4 nights during spring break. We have stayed here one time 2 years ago and we once again enjoyed our stay. We stayed in a 2BR Presidential Suite which was very spacious and comfortable. We have three girls 6, 12 and 15. They enjoyed the water park and adventure forest amusement area.

Check-in was easy and we didn't have any other reason to contact the front desk. The Wyndham timeshare people called several times but we simply didn't answer the phone.

The only issue we had was with the wireless internet. It was very slow. I assume every family has 2-4 internet devices from laptops to phones to ipads/ipods so with the resort being full it makes sense. I did email Wyndham asking them to look into upgrading there access points to handle more volume.

Good room, nice amenities and good location. We will be back!

This is a beautiful resort with great amenities but all that is spoiled by the Wyndham timeshare people who act like your best friends and then saddle you with something you really don't want. If you go here enjoy the resort but STAY AWAY from the Wyndham folks. You'll be sorry! We are!

Enjoyed spring break with 3 teenagers and my adult daughter. Ideal for multi-generational family vacation. They were getting the outdoor park ready and it looked like it would be fun in addition to multiple indoor activities. Thirsty Miner buffet affordable and good food. It was not the best weather when we were in the Smokies, but indoor activities kept teenagers busy and satisfied.

Room Tip: Ask for pool view and within the main facility.

Arrived and checked in around 2pm - no problem getting right into our room. The room was VERY nice - well decorated and maintained - used the extra points to get a pool view room which guarantees a room looking out at the main outdoor waterpark and attached via skywalk to the other main buildings.

During spring break time - the only open waterpark is the 1 and only 1 indoor waterpark - this resort is a Wyndham resort attached and semi-associated with the Wilderness Resort hotel portion - as such - the waterpark was PACKED. Way too many people for the only waterpark - to top it off - during our stay it snowed out and was cold for all 4 nights - so everyone stayed around the resort and at the waterparks causing it to be excessively busy. We used the waterparks one morning for 3 hours right when it opened and that was it - any later and waterslides were an hour + wait.

Now, the bad portion - consistently during our stay we had bad service - from the Wyndham front desk staff - the sales people (especially) - and the general Wilderness resort staff. Given, this is quite likely to be a result of the over busyness and poor weather causing people to stay at the resort. Front desk often was busy answering the phones and helping a line of others - often not even acknowledging when you were waiting right there in front of them. In a couple of circumstances couldn't correctly answer questions about what services/amenities were available within the resort. Sales staff saw that we owned a bunch of Wyndham resale points and said they didn't want to waste their time with us - we wanted the coupon book that they supposedly offered though and we were promised that they would stop by first thing the next morning and drop one off (even though he clearly had one in hand) - LIE #1. Wanting to get their coupon book we wanted to get sooner than later we stopped by the front desk and concierge - asked there and they said they didn't have them there - LIE #2. The first sales person also said don't answer the phone as they would call to reschedule as he would just say we weren't there. Sales continued to leave notes under our door and call every morning during our stay waking us up a couple of times, so I finally gave in and answered the phone another day and told them to come on by - they had heard what the other salesperson did and treated us semi-poorly as well, but not as bad as the first. Oh - the good ol' coupon book - the second sales person said they had run out at the sales office and said in order to get our "welcome gifts" I would have to stop down at the sales office - I went down there and they had a whole basket full of them sitting right out in the open - meanwhile my wife went to the front desk to talk to a manager about our sales and service experience during our visit, during which they apologized and gave her a coupon book from the front desk supply which they had earlier said they DID NOT HAVE. That great coupon book - we REALLY could have used if we had gotten it the first day as it would have saved us at least $30 at the resort during our stay, but instead got the run-around and didn't get it until the end of our stay at which point we had already spent the money at the places we could have saved.

I've always loved my stays at Wyndham resorts - but this one is quite hopefully the odd-ball out when it comes to service as the service this particular time stunk. Hopefully it can just be chalked up to be a one-off from the bad weather and overly busy spring break time.

Room Tip: If you want to be guaranteed indoor access to the indoor waterpark, use the extra points to book a p...

We pulled up at 4pm, had no trouble checking in.. The front desk was super friendly and quick.
We were in our 2 bedroom condo in less than 20mins.. As we were unloading our luggage, the timeshare shark did make his apperance in our living room.. We immediatly told him we were not interested, he gave us a couple attraction suggests and went on his way.. No pressure what so ever.
The condo itself was great, very clean and lots of room. We called for bags of ice (free) several times during our stay, they were always brought very quickly.
My 4 year old loved the water park.. We have been to Great Wolf Lodge several times, and the waterdome here is hands down better.. Friday-Sunday afternoon the waterpark was pretty busy, rest of the week no lines and no issues getting tubes..
For the most part the lifeguards were friendly.. On our last day at the park (Thursday am 3/21) the employee working the purple and yellow slide was so rude.. Most of the lifeguards here appear to be highschool/college kids wearing red and white.. This was a middle aged man, wearing a khaki "wilderness" polo.. I assume he was some sort of manager.. I was shocked how how short and snotty he was.. He refused to help anyone in the tube..There were 2 young girls in front of us trying to get into a double tube, they were struggling.. The guy just stood there and watched them.. Finally, my husband stepped in to give them a hand.. This jerk was the only negative thing about our stay.

We stayed at Wyndham Great Smokies Lodge in building 6 this past weekend. We showed up to check in at 4:00pm and were told our unit wasn't ready yet. The lady at the desk took our cell number and said she would call when it was ready. Almost and hour and a half later I called back to see if it was ready as we had gone to the grocery store to buy our food. The lady (Joann) told me that we could leave our groceries at the front desk and they would make sure they got in the refrigerator, but that our room still wasn't ready and she couldn't tell me how long it would be. About 20 minutes later she called to say the room was ready. The rooms (2 bedroom) was very spacious and super nice. The following morning we got a phone call at 8:30 am to say they were sending someone up with a checklist to make sure everything in our room was satisfactory. The "checklist" turned out to be a salesman who was very nice, but obviously didn't understand that when I say NO I mean NO. I found the salesman visit to our room to be intrusive. I was cooking bacon in my pj's!!! We have been timeshare owners for quite some time with another company and I have NEVER had a sales person visit my room....EVER. We had a really good time at the resort once we got past the delay of check-in and when I convinced the sales guy that I wasn't going to get dressed and come to a sales meeting in the middle of the day on my 2 day vacation. My family had a good time at the waterpark as well as the ropes course, blacklight golf and bowling. This is a great place with lots to do. I suggest you tell the staff when you check in that you don't want any phone calls if you don't want an early morning phone call and subsequent visit from the salesman. We ate at the Thirsty Miner one night and had a good meal also. They are currently working on the outdoor area adding waterslides to that area.
